Over the next 3 to 4 months, we are going to phase out support for email alerts altogether. At some point, email alerts will no longer be supported and this matter is final and we will not change our decision on that. You will be able to receive alerts, through Telegram and also our own alert application which you can access on a browser or phone. There are too many associated problems with email alerts. Email delivery is simply unreliable. We cannot guarantee delivery at all. And it creates a problem of our reputation for delivering the emails that are not associated with alerts and delivery of those is blocked or delayed. The very simple fact is email is a major problem on the Internet. It has become unreliable due to abuses from others. Update: SMS message support for alerts is being discontinued March 20, 2024. We are going to do our best to have an alternative ready, in about two weeks, through Telegram integration. This is already supported through our Chat functionality which will be the foundation of this functionality. At this point in time, email alerts should be considered unsupported. We will not be providing any further help if you do not receive email alerts. And it was some user, who marked a very large number of their own email alerts, as spam, which triggered the problem. At this point in time, we are 100% shutting off all email alerts until further notice. Update: Actually these are permanently off. They will never be brought back. The use of email for alerts makes no sense. We cannot damage our reputation, over reckless use of email alerts by our users. Although we know this is not deliberate. But still it causes us a serious problem. Remote alert notifications are off until we have an alternative ready and we will get that out, in about one week. Maybe less. At this point in time, install on your mobile device and your computer, Telegram: https://telegram.org/ That is how you will reliably receive alerts until we have our own web-based and mobile solution ready. And follow the instructions here to do the chat integration to Telegram: Notice: Sierra Chart Chat To read the complete thread about this entire subject: Notice: Sierra Chart Alert App and Telegram Replacing Email/SMS Alerts Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. We should have the alternative alert notifications through Telegram ready by the beginning of next week (March 11, 2024). And we will get started on a web application to receive alerts as well. Most likely we will be setting up a separate dedicated chat server process, used for alerts. In this case, the Telegram integration step will need to be done again when connecting to that server. So you may want to wait before working on the Telegram integration if you intend to be using our new method of alert notifications. And one nice thing about the alert notifications is you will have a full history of them. Which can be accessible through any computer running Sierra Chart. One additional note is that the new method for alerts, which initially will use Telegram, and later our own web-based application which can be used through a web browser or mobile phone, is already developed. The foundation is the Sierra Chart Chat functionality. This is already established, proven, stable, and functional. And it provides instantaneous delivery and reliable delivery of alert messages without any filtering to a desktop, laptop or mobile device. So it is a huge massive improvement over what we have already using unreliable email alerts which are just simply treacherous to our reputation. The Sierra Chart Chat is also superior to SMS messages which is not entirely reliable and very limited. And additionally, there is history maintained with no missed alerts. So the history is available, through any device at any later point in time. Regarding Linux compatibility, there is a known issue, although we do not know the reason, where the chat window freezes and freezes the program, when it is opened under Linux. This is when using Wine. We think by running it in the main thread, it will resolve that. So we will work on an option to run this chat window in the main thread. So that it can be used on Linux. Version 2611 is now released, which supports an alternative reliable and unfiltered replacement for email and SMS alerts from Sierra Chart. We will provide the documentation, on how to implement this functionality later this evening. Or by Sunday morning. Additional items we will add: - An option to take an image of the chart at the time a chart originated alert occurs and then upload that image and also save that image locally. A link to the image uploaded to the Web server can then be set to be provided as an alert message in the alert chat that you configure. This way you can see the state of the chart at the time of an alert. - There will be more detailed Telegram related integration options per individual chat. Right now this is controllable for group chats. The basic concept is you set up a private group chat with only you as the member and then you direct alert messages to it, and enable relaying to Telegram and enable Telegram notifications. You can then get the alerts through Telegram on any mobile device. - Web-based app which can be used within web browser or mobile phone to receive chat messages including the alerts. You will have access to the full history of alerts at any time and can scroll through them. This will be controllable. You can request one day of history or multiple days of history. - Multiple chat servers with an option to choose a chat server. The purpose of this is to distribute processing load. Although we would be very very far away from any load issue at this time. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Update 2024-03-13: The instructions below, need to be used with version 2616 or higher. Update 2024-03-19: These are the instructions to follow if you have been using email or SMS alerts from Sierra Chart. The below is the replacement. Use version 2621 or higher. ---- Instructions for the new alert functionality to replace email and SMS alerts: There are many conditions within Sierra Chart which can trigger Alerts. Whatever the source of an alert is in Sierra Chart, at the location where the condition is configured, you choose an Alert Number. This is just providing some background information. 1. Update Sierra Chart with Help >> Download Prerelease. Instructions: Software Download: Fast Update You need to be running version 2621 or higher. 2. The first step, is to configure a private group within the Sierra Chart Chat functionality with only yourself, as the member. Select File >> Open Chat Window. The Chat window runs on another thread, and it may not always become visible when you select this command. You will have to look for it on the System Taskbar on your desktop. If it is not visible when selecting this command, then select Window >> Reset Windows. After that select File >> Open Chat Window. You should then see it but once again you may need to look for it on your System Taskbar. 3. On the Chat window select Commands >> New Group. Do not select this command again while the New Group window is open because it will cause an exception! We will fix this in the next release. 4. Enter a Group Name. And set Relay to Telegram to Yes. 5. Press OK. 6. The group will be created and listed in the list of chats on the left of the Chat Window. At this point, only you are the member and it is your own private chat. Whatever messages you send, are seen by no one else but yourself. 7. Select this chat in the list of chats on the left of the Chat Window. 8. You will see, a Chat ID: at the top of the message list. Make a note of this numeric chat ID. This is a unique identifier for the chat. 9. Select Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts. 10. Select the particular Alert Number from the drop-down list of alert numbers you want to configure to send messages to your private group chat. When you send a message to the chat, it then can be relayed to Telegram. Telegram, is a messaging platform which is freely available: https://telegram.org/ Telegram can run on your desktop computer or various mobile devices. 11. Set the setting Send Alert as Chat Message when this Alert is Triggered to Yes. 12. Set Notification >> Chat Identifier or Chat Name for Alerts to the integer identifier you made a note of at step 8. Do not enter the name of the chat here! The name is not currently supported. 13. Press OK. 14. Whenever the particular Alert Number, that is configured to send a message to the chat is triggered, then the message that would normally be sent by email or SMS, is given to the designated chat. When the Chat Interface is being used for Alerts, the Chat Window needs to be kept open. There is no reason to close it. Just simply minimize it and it will be on the System Taskbar. It will be running in the background on its own thread. There is no need to be concerned with it. 15. The next step is to configure the Telegram integration. To do that, you first need to have Telegram installed. Complete that step first. It is best to install it on your desktop computer where Sierra Chart is running. You can get it from here: https://telegram.org/ From your mobile device you can install it, by using whatever method to search for available apps on your device and finding it and installing it. 16. To do the Telegram integration select Commands >> Telegram Notifications from the Sierra Chart Chat window. And follow through the instructions in the pop-up message. 17. If you get any error, when attaching the SierraChartTelegramChat bot in your Telegram installation, then type the command /detach and send that first. And then go through the procedure again (Step 16). 18. Telegram can be installed on your mobile device, or any device, and whenever an alert, sends a message to your private chat group, and is set to be Relayed to Telegram, you will then get it on Telegram. 19. You can immediately stop Alerts from being sent to the chat by selecting Commands >> Disconnect on the Chat Window (File >> Open Chat Window). Any subsequent alerts being sent will be kept in a temporary queue. This queue of pending alerts will not exceed 10 elements. So no more than 10 will be queued. And that queue is discarded when Sierra Chart is exited. 20. Eventually we will have our own mobile application to receive the alerts. This is going to be developed very soon. We estimate about 45 days. 21. Finally, this is a reliable, unfiltered, and stable method to receive alerts. We cannot always guarantee delivery through Telegram, but delivery will be guaranteed with our own mobile chat application which will be available as soon as possible. 22. All Sierra Chart users, have a unique username for chat, which can be different from your Sierra Chart username and that can be configured here: https://www.sierrachart.com/UserControlPanel.php?page=ManageAccountInfo (Chat Username:) Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. There is now support to take an image of the chart if an alert originates from a chart, to capture the state of the chart at the time of the alert, and save that to a file. The setting is: Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts >> Alert Settings >> "Capture Chart Image on Alert for Chart"; And if this setting is set to Yes for the same Alert Number, a link to the image will also be added to the Chat Group and then relayed to Telegram if that is enabled for the Chat Group: "Send Alert as Chat Message when this Alert is Triggered (External alerts)" The chart is useful to examine the state of the chart at the time of the alert. This will be in version 2621. Available now. Update: See the attachment for an example of what this looks like in Telegram. You can then click the link in Telegram and being that Telegram has already pre-fetched the image, it will then be displayed within the Telegram image viewer. So you have immediate access to the state of the chart, at the time of an alert. This all occurs in real time and instantly. So you have immediate real-time access, to events, meeting your conditions, on your mobile device and can see a chart at that moment in time which is up-to-date. A problem has been discovered in the versions of Sierra Chart supporting alert messages to the designated Chat and relaying to Telegram. The issue is that when the Chat Window / Chat Service Client is not connected to the chat server and during that time there is an attempt to send an alert message to the chat, it then goes into a queue and any subsequent alert messages go into the queue and they never get sent. There is not a way out of this state without restarting Sierra Chart. This is resolved in version 2622 which we are putting out in about 20 minutes. Update with Help >> Download Current Version. Additionally in order to prevent a large amount of alert messages from being queued up and sent, once the chat service has a connection to the chat server, and then sent all at once, we are discarding alert messages that occurred and intended to be sent to the chat, while not connected. This is the only safe way because otherwise there could be hundreds or maybe thousands of messages queued up and then sent all at once. There has been a server update which has unexpectedly disabled Telegram alerts. We know why there is a problem with this. Follow the below steps to resolve: Update Sierra Chart to the current version. Instructions: Software Download: Fast Update Go to the chat window with File >> Open Chat Window and select the chat you use for alerts on the left side of the Chat Window. Select Commands >> Edit Chat. There are two Relay to Telegram options at the bottom of that settings window.Set Relay Own Messages to Telegram to Yes and press OK. Only this one option needs to be enabled. It is very important you are running an up-to-date version of Sierra Chart for this to work properly. These settings are now controllable per each individual chat. So you have the ability to relay to Telegram your own messages or messages being received, for each individual chat. So you have a high degree of control over this. ---- There is another issue related to this we need to resolve, and either Thursday or Friday this week (April 4 or 5) we are going to do an update of the chat server which will require an update of Sierra Chart to be able to use the chat. We will make a posting here when this is done and also provide a system notification message. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
