Based upon the following request from Interactive Brokers you will need to reproduce the problem again unless you can provide the log files requested. We recommend not using your automated trading system but simply open a chart for the particular option symbol you are trading, on your live account. Submit an order for that option symbol. When there is a fill and you see the Trade Position Quantity return back to 0, you can then send the log files requested. Carefully review the following information from Interactive Brokers: For further investigation, we would also need to have full detailed TWS log file from a customer. To generate this log:
1. Make sure to be using the Latest TWS version: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=16040 2. From File -> Global Configuration -> API -> Settings set the Logging Level to DETAIL 3. Replicate the issue where position returns 0 4. From TWS execute Ctrl + Alt + U to see the path where the log file is located, copy it 5. Navigate to the copied path and locate the log file, called tws.log.txt (additionally we would also require the API log, same as you have already provided) Please send us these log files for further investigation. It would also be very helpful if a client could check the Account Window (Account -> Account Window) in the TWS during the time when he's receiving 0 values for positions. The position information is taken from this window. If possible, please also attach a screenshot of this window at time of request. You can privately attach the requested files here and we will send them to them. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Hi, I also want to send over the API Log File & TWS Log File from last Wednesday, this is relevant as it shows the cancellation request from SC and also might give more insight into what is truly happening on the IB API side of things. Also attached corresponding SC Trade Activity Log & Message Log below. I do wonder if the second "Order sent" (which is bolded below) might cause a disruption in the quantity amount IB API is reading causing the quantity result to then come back to 0. Just a thought. Result Position was added for logging purposes to track our position, it was only added as an aide. Thank you. We are going to send this information to Interactive Brokers before Monday morning. Just to be sure that we haven't overlooked anything, when you had a Position in the option symbol, did you look at the Trade >> Trade Orders and Positions >> Positions tab and see if the Trade Service Position Quantity was 0 for the Symbol? The symbol you see there is truncated and not the complete symbol. Here is additional information: Interactive Brokers Trading Service: Trade Position Line or Quantity Disappearing or Displaying Zero Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Also, according to this: https://www.sierrachart.com/Download.php?Folder=SupportBoard&download=7920 It appears as though the TWS did send the Position update, but the Position Quantity went back to 0, 2 minutes later. So possibly Interactive Brokers is now going to claim there is no problem. Complete nonsense and incompetence. The very fact that they are asking for so many different pieces of information just shows how disorganized they are. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. I do not have this information, can do another test if needed, please let me know. It appears as though the TWS did send the Position update, but the Position Quantity went back to 0, 2 minutes later.
As stated below, I ran a test not using Option Trader (our custom automated trading study), which in turn would not have the functionality of attached orders. In doing so the order would have to be manually exited, so in turn it reverted to 0 2 minutes later as that was when I manually exited the order at hand. We recommend not using your automated trading system but simply open a chart for the particular option symbol you are trading, on your live account. Submit an order for that option symbol. When there is a fill and you see the Trade Position Quantity return back to 0, you can then send the log files requested.
Typically the Position Quantity reverts to 0, 7 - 8 seconds after entry and then the cancellation occurs of attached orders. (see attached) So the basic premise of the issue is the cancellation occurs by SC due to the fact order quantity/position is not being relayed, I assume by IB. Please let me know if anything is unclear. Thx Adam Date Time Of Last Edit: 2016-05-09 16:38:24

Ok I did another test and did not have any errors. Have attached Trade Activity Log and Trade Orders and Positions, both Order tab and Positions tab attached. The cancellation you see in Trade Activity Log occurs only when we get a reversal in direction of position, this has always been inputted in our source code and relates to our strategy. Running Version 1406. Besides updating to Version 1406 there have been no discernible changes that have been made. I'm still very unsure of why we had no errors today and all of last week, when tested we did. Thanks again, Adam |

It is not our responsibility to be looking at these logs and we will not. There is nothing we can do ourselves with the Interactive Brokers log files. And we do not fully understand them anyway. However, we already did look at one log but saw that there was a problem on the IB side. Anyway this is what we want you to do: Update Sierra Chart to the latest prerelease by following the instructions here: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/download.php#FastUpdate We added some additional logging to more completely track positions. Once you duplicate the problem, provide the logs that Interactive Brokers has requested and also attach the Sierra Chart Trade Activity Log file following these instructions here: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_TradeActivityLog.php#TradeActivityLogFileToSupport And let us know the symbol, and time and time zone of when the problem occurred. Thanks. Updated to newest pre-release 1409. 2nd day in a row no issues have come about. Will test again tomorrow morning. Still wanted to get information to you as I know you've added logging. Sierra Chart Trade Activity Log file attached. Symbol - AAPL-OPT-20160513-94-C-SMART-100-USD & AAPL-OPT-20160513-93-P-SMART-100-USD Time - 08:49:20:940 - 09:01:31:174 Time Zone - PST Also I got this from IB Support. Your log files have been received and reviewed. The logs do show the cancel order requests being made by Sierra Charts on the problematic day 05/04. They also show that Sierra charts made a portfolio subscription request on 05/09 which resulted in streaming portfolio data being continuously returned on 05/09, but there is not such a request from the log section provided for 05/04. Presumably, the Sierra Charts software is interpreting the absence of data as evidence that there are no portfolio changes occurring, and this may be a source of issue. To investigate further, can you please upload the complete log file from 05/04? If it is larger than 15 MB it will have to be zipped and emailed to api@interactivebrok ers.com. Hi - Curious if the root of the problem has been deemed "the Sierra Charts software is interpreting the absence of data as evidence that there are no portfolio changes occurring, and this may be a source of issue." Have you yourself heard back from IB on this issue? Thx Adam |
