Global Cursor and Sierra chart freezing when connected to Interactive Brokers datafeed

Hi,

It appears that the Global Cursor and Sierra Chart itself is freezing intermittently only when connected to the Interactive Brokers [trading] datafeed. I do have Denali datafeed for data, but just connect to Interactive Brokers datafeed for trading. This is something that only started occurring today. I was on version 2627 of Sierra Chart, and I decided to update to the latest version which is 2638, to see if it would help, but it is still happening.

To duplicate this, have a number of charts open and then use the global cursor and go back and forth on a chart. It should freeze intermittently.

This is a very serious problem because it means that any commands, including trading commands sent by keyboard shortcuts will not be immediately or reliably executed, because of the risk of sending the command twice because of a lack of response the first time.

This issue is only occurring when Sierra Chat is connected to the datafeed, when it is disconnected there is no freezing.

Thank you.

This is a general performance issue. What the cause is we do not know. You have to troubleshoot this on your side. Refer to:

This is not a general performance issue because:

1. The CPU is at 12 % usage
2. This issue does not occur with any other datafeed except Interactive Brokers [trading]. It does not occur with SC data - All Services [data].
3. This problem does not occur when the datafeed is disconnected.
4. I am a programmer myself, so I understand and can identify what the problem is.
5. This occurred recently ONLY. I believe you guys have done some work recently with the IB interface. Perhaps that is the problem.
6. This is very important, please see if you can duplicate the problem.

Thank you.

There is some general/unknown performance issue and we do not know what it is. It is not something we can control. It is definitively an issue on your side and you need to troubleshoot it and find out what it is. Maybe it is a problem, with the file system and reading and writing a particular file. We do not know.

This is definitively not the case at all:
5. This occurred recently ONLY. I believe you guys have done some work recently with the IB interface. Perhaps that is the problem.

There is no possibility of us being able to reproduce the problem and it is not a problem with Sierra Chart at all and we will not spend any time on this:
6. This is very important, please see if you can duplicate the problem.
We must make this abundantly clear. This is not an issue with Sierra Chart. There is no chance of that.

It could be related to this:
High CPU Usage | Inactive User Interface | Poor Performance | Long Time to Load Chart Data | Charts Reloading Often: 30.23 - Chart Tick Size and Volume at Price Processing

Another thing we would say, is that the Interactive Brokers data feed is processed on the primary thread and Sierra Chart data feeds are processed on a background thread (Multiple background threads).

We really do not like to say this, because it really should not be noticeable even if it is on the main thread. Even IQ Feed is processed on the main thread.

So if there is an excessive amount of data from TWS maybe there is some impact but should not be.

I have isolated and identified the problem which should be easy to duplicate on any PC.

1. This freezing of Sierra Chart is only occurring with the ES symbol.
2. It is only occurring when connected to the Interactive Brokers [trading] datafeed. It does not occur when connected to the SC data - All Services [data] datafeed.
3. I have attached a chartbook with a single chart for symbol ES. Look at the price changes on the ladder. Notice how the prices freeze every few seconds. When this occurs Sierra Chart is also freezing.

Thank you.

This is absolutely definitively not something we will be spending any time on. This is not an issue within Sierra Chart. It simply could not be. There is some unknown performance issue causing the problem. Refer to:

Please open the attached chartbook and see for yourself. It is that simple.

There is a problem. I am unable to trade the ES because of this problem.

Thank you.

We are 100% certain we would not see a problem. However, we tried to test it anyway and we cannot because no streaming data is provided from TWS for the symbol using our demo account.

At this point would be best to ask the other users to see if they can reproduce the problem. Other users need to set this to No:
Data/Trade Service Settings: Allow Support for Sierra Chart Data Feeds (Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Common Settings >> Common Other Settings)

We also want you to follow the procedure here to delete the chart data file for the ES June futures contract:

I deleted the file ES-202406-CME.scid for the ES June futures contract, and now everything is working fine. This file must have been corrupted.

Thank you.

Not corrupted from the Sierra Chart perspective but some file system issue.
