Hi, please see image below. In your other documentation, you reference a "Test sound" button, but I don't see it. Can you show where this button is? Maybe via a screenshot or video?

Open the window for Global Settings >> General Settings. Select the page for Alerts at the top. In the second sub-section on this page (named "Sound File") you will find the "Test Sound" button. On the left it just says "(Button)" on on the right it states "[Test Sound]". Click where it states "[Test Sound]" to hear the sound file selected in the line just above.

Thanks, The alert sounds don't work. I have alerts for certain conditions when they happen... how do I add them? Please see attached screenshot. I want a sound to happen when that condition is met. I tried Alert 2 & Alert 1, and no sound is made. Sometimes it happens, but then other times it does now. Any help on how to make this consistent? When this study setting occurs... I want a sound to play. But no sounds are played. And there are 200 alerts in the drop down menu... but only 2 alert sound wav files (see 2nd screenshot). Where are the rest?

We see you have Alert 2 setup for the alert you created. Go to Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts and select Alert 2 in the Alert entry. This sets Alert 2 as the alert that is being edited on this page. Go down to the Alert Sound File Name entry and select the .wav file you want to use as the sound. Any .wav file can be used, it does not just have to be one that has the word "Alert" in it. you can also add your own .wav files if you want. Refer to the information at the following link: General Settings Window: Sound File (Global Settings >> General Settings >> Alerts) General Settings Window: Configuring Alert Number Instructions Once the alert is setup the way you want it, then it should work properly in your Alert. If you have an issue, check the Alert Manager window. Thank you... super weird. It's working now. But sometimes the wav file sounds DON'T play at all. I'll make a recording if it happens again.

When you do not hear the sound, first check the Alert Manager and make sure the alert condition occurred that should set off the sound.

Ok, very weird thing. The alerts sometimes work, and sometimes don't. They didn't work, I tried to make a video for you, then they worked as I was making the video (zoom). As soon as zoom is off, they don't work. Here's a video I shot with my phone: https://youtu.be/3WzVLoeB-e0 It is super weird. I don't know why the alerts don't make any noise. The wav files when played on from the file location (not via SC)... play a sound. They just don't make a sound in SC. |

Yes, that is very odd. Not sure I would have believed it if you did not include the video. We do not have any insight as to why what is occurring is occurring. There is no reason for it. The button is simply a button. We could understand that with Zoom on, that it could have some interaction that stopped the button, but in your case it is the opposite. The only thing we can think to try is to first reboot your system. We want to do this to clear out any issues that may be related to the Operating System being overloaded. Then when the system is ready again, just run Sierra Chart by itself and see if the "Test Sound" button is working for you or not. Hopefully it will work, and if so, then continue to move forward and hopefully this was just a glitch. Otherwise, let us know what is occurring. Still happening :/ is there a way to check what AUDIO that Sierra is set to? I have a few different outputs (i.e. mic) and it may be trying to play OUT thru the mic setting. That's the only thing I can think of now... cuz when Zoom is on, the mic is active. When off, it is not active. Not getting alerts really really sucks... missed an entry today because the alert didn't sound. |

Sierra Chart is going to use the "Default Speakers" whatever they are set to. We do not do anything special in terms of defining what the operating system should use.

This is very very odd. The default output device is correctly labeled. Do you have other .wav files I can use? When I test the sounds... some still work, the "alert" wav files don't seem to. Maybe they are oddly formatted or something? Everything seems correct, except the alert files don't work / make any sound |

Here are the two Alert .wav files that we just tried and they play fine for us. But if you are able to get other files to work properly, then we would recommend just using one of the files that works (unless these work for you). Here's more info on the alert issue: https://youtu.be/mv9kcHwucso It seems that for me on my machine... sierra doesn't play the first 2 seconds of an alert (unless Zoom is on). I added an error log message that appeared. |

This problem may be a Windows problem as I think I've encountered it before. Basically, Windows seems to (sometimes) shut down Audio until there is an actual audio file playing, so when a Sierra Audio files is played, it can sort of take a few seconds for the actual sound to play on your headphones or speakers. For example, you have a .Wav file where Sierra plays a verbal message of 'Alert A , Alert B, Alert C, Alert D'. So when that file is activated, you might only get the sound of "Alert C' or "Alert D" because as said above, when the .Wav file is first played Windows is busy firing up the ability for that audio alert to be heard. This is why, if you're already listening to music or something like YouTube AND THE AUDIO ALERT ACTIVATES, you'll hear the "Alert A, Alert B" etc right from the beginning as your speakers are already on and working. Therefore test it out, listen to music and then wait for the Sierra .WAV file to be activated, chances are you'll hear the full message. Then try it the other way, ie not listening to any sounds. |

@Calculus, this seems to be EXACTLY what is happening. Do you have any solutions / links readily available? If not, no worries, I'll search for "how to keep windows audio on" or something like that.

Sorry but I never found a proper solution apart from these 2 - 1. Listening to music at the same time, this makes sure the audio part of Windows is working so when the Sierra alert kicks in you'll hear 100% of it. But I don't like to listen to anything when trading, and - 2. Make the Audio file longer. I use a site like this - https://www.texttospeechfree.com/ - to create speech files, perhaps "Alert on s and p" but then I get the website to create it 2-3 times so "alert on s and p, alert on s and p, alert on s and p". That means if I don't hear the first one or two, I'll get the third through my headphones. Hope this helps but I fear this might a Windows Black Hole, ie there might be a solution but you'll have to hunt and hunt and hunt for it, and that might not be worth it. |

Yea, I'll take a peak. Thanks. In the video, I went to: https://mixkit.co/free-sound-effects/notification/ They have little sound clips and the 3 second ones play the last 1 second. Comes 2 seconds late for execution signals, but at least it plays a sound. |
