Depth data not downloading on chartbooks

I'm still having problems getting depth data for my GC charts. This has been ongoing. My workaround HAD been to have another GC chart up, that for some reason the depth came in on. Then when I opened my GC chart where the depth had not been working, the depth would come in and work. So the depth data would work but only after another GC chart had the depth working. Strange, and I don't have any idea why that worked. So I never resolved this depth data issue. I'd like to set up a chart view so you can see the issue and try to fix it. I've worked through all I can on the support boards.

Please advise.
Thanks,
Jim

Where exactly are you having the issue of the depth data not showing? Is it in the Chart DOM or are you using the Market Depth Historical Graph?

On the Market Depth Historical Graph set the Input for Show Quantity Numbers to In Bars and After Last Bar and then ensure that the coloring for the Bid and Ask Depth Quantities is a color that can easily be seen against your background.

Take a screenshot of what you see and post it here using these instructions:

Show quantity numbers: Did this and numbers do not show
Color: I adjusted for color, the depth did not appear.

Go through the information at the following link and let us know if any of these solves your problem. Note that you will need to wait until the market starts trading again after 5:00pm Central US time.

Yes, I've been through all these various steps before and I can't correct it. The GC (gold) contract is the chart that is not showing the depth data. I have depth data on my ES charts, they work fine. Please advise.

Please do the following for us on your GC chart:
- Open the Market Depth window by selecting File >> Open Market Depth Window.
- Select Edit >> Screen Images >> Upload Chart with Overlays
- Wait about 5 seconds and you will get a pop-up window that states that the image has been uploaded and pressing OK will put the link to the image on your clipboard. Click OK on that window and then paste the link into this posting and post it for us so we can see your Market Depth window.

The good news is that you are getting the market depth data, so that is not the issue.

We want to take a look at that chart. Follow these instructions to get us the chart:

We opened this after the market had closed for the weekend, so we do not know if we would have received the new data as it came in. We will have to look at this on Monday.

But, when we forced the download of the historical market depth data, it filled in correctly.

We want you to try downloading the historical depth data. Refer to the instructions at the following link. You will need to do instructions 1-6 and then 8 (7 talks about automatic downloads, but that is not occurring for you right now anyway):
Market Depth Historical Graph: Downloading Of Historical Market Depth Data

Let us know if you get the downloaded market depth data.

Sierra,

Did the historical market depth data download for you in the live market? I went through the instructions to download the historical depth data as you asked and I get nothing. When you say you "forced the download" not sure what you mean. I tried to reload and recalculate and still no depth data came in. This is only happening on my Gold Chartbook. The data comes in properly on my ES chart. So hopefully you found something. Please advise.

Sorry, we lost track of this.

We were not showing the data updating, but when we opened a new chart for GC and added the Market Depth Historical Graph to that chart, then everything looked good. In addition, the other chart started updating properly and now we can not reproduce the issue.

So please try what we did above. Open another chart for GC (do not duplicate the one you have, start with a new chart by selecting File >> Find Symbol) and then add the Market Depth Historical Graph to that chart. Let us know if the information is updating in that new chart properly. Then look at your other chart and see if it is also updating correctly.

ok, yes this worked. Thank you! The depth now comes in ONCE I opened a new Gold chart and then added the Market Depth Historical Graph. Actually, this had been my workaround previously (not the setting up a new chart per your request, just opening up another gold chart that would load the depth properly, and then opening the gold chart I needed). The problem this time was I switched computers and for some reason, neither of my two gold charts would load the depth, so I was stuck until this new workaround idea that you provided.

So yes happy I now have a workaround solution, but really the problem still remains. Why does the depth not load in unless I have another chart already open with depth working? When you resolve this problem at some point please let me know. Thank you for your help.

We really do not know why this is happening. Our recommendation would be to create a totally new chart and get it setup and you should not have this problem. Then you can just delete the old chart and not have to worry about it any further.

If you do continue to have this issue on a new chart, let us know.

I had this exact problem and opening another chart and putting on the study did indeed populate and other charts with this study. But it only did so from the time of creating the new chart. Furthermore, why does this happen?

We do not know why this is occurring. This is only the second time we have heard of this, and we were never able to see the problem ourselves. This meant we were not able to reproduce it and hence be able to figure out why it occurred.

We can take a look at your chartbook that has the chart for which you are having an issue. If we can reproduce the problem then we can fix it. Attach your chartbook to this thread for us to take a look at it by following these instructions:

Unfortunately, we are not able to reproduce the problem you are seeing. The data downloads just fine for us, so we still do not know why this occurs.
