Yes that will solve the problem and it generally is important to keep up-to-date and not be running a version which is more than a year old.

There are numerous improvements made including performance improvements, and bug fixes.

Market stats are not coming through all today Monday. But all my Futures symbols work fine.
People saying no live feed are not very specific.

Are NY Tick,, A/D Ratio etc not working? They backfill but then stop serving.


I can not upgrade for several reasons I have stated before. (not for over a year)

Surely you have not changed the basic data feed handling. Lots of users are on old versions for reasons.

Backwards compatibility for years was always a big feature of Sierra Chart.
You always used to encourage but not require later versions.

We have had a look into this, and we cannot maintain data server compatibility with versions of Sierra Chart more than two years old.

To solve the problem in post #5, #6, you need to run a current version of Sierra Chart. You can use a separate copy of Sierra Chart installed into a different folder so you can continue to use the older version of Sierra Chart. Refer to:

This is a completely reasonable solution. You can get the real-time data from the Sierra Chart data services in a separate instance.

We will continue to allow older versions of Sierra Chart to continue to be used but as we said we cannot maintain data server compatibility or compatibility with any external trading service. There is a risk, at any time, compatibility can be lost.

One of you is using CQG, and we can tell you that we are going to be locking out CQG connectivity in about a month for older versions. There are critical improvements made.

If one reason you are using an older version has to do with the pitchfork tool and logarithmic scaling, we can take care of that. If the issue relates to using old spreadsheets, there is nothing we can do. If it is something else let us know and we will see how to solve that.

We have to be clear here, we are not going to lock anyone out of older versions, unless they are using CQG, but at the same time we are not going to be able to support compatibility with our data servers.

Update 2019-08-12:

Additionally once you are using the current version of Sierra Chart installed into a different folder on your system you can then access the chart data which is updating live in that version in an older version by using a simplified method of chart data sharing . This is accomplished by setting the Data Files Folder in the older instance to use the folder of the newer instance. Refer to:

Once that is done you can just open the charts through File >> New/Open Intraday Chart or New/Open Historical Chart in the older instance, using the chart data files from the newer instance.

However, you cannot connect to the data feed in the older instance any longer. So you need to select File >> Disconnect and disable this option:

Great idea: the newest version becomes a data server main instance.
I earlier tried to set up execute trades from a second instance - but one setting must be wrong (no execution)..
But main instance trades (or positions?) show up in instance-2's logs.
If a main instance could optionally be set to execute a 2nd instance's orders, then execution improvements of new version would also be available to an older version.

My market stats problem apparently was: I had recently set stat's charts "days to load" to 1 and 2 days (to run faster); That does not work on Mondays, apparently.
Set to 3 days seems to fix that.

I'm on Version 1488 (fast,reliable) - not the old spreadsheets. (around V 1490, overlays of spreadsheets (creation) changed column count on a couple of indicators, affecting big formulas-- you advised rewrite, a huge task).
Your new solution may buy time for work-arounds and rewrite.

The trading charts are on V-1488-- so, for a year those Buy Sell signals would be generated on Instance-2 and it's Trade windows-- unless Main instance just has basic chart for each traded symbol to be done manually (as now) based on viewing Instance-2 signals.

Uh Oh- Still no live feed on Market stats.. download set to 3 days did not fix statistics (I was running simulation after backfill on startup.) No statistics are working yesterday or today.

I tried a test upgrade to V-1956 as server. "Username does not exist". Is this related to the warning message we've seen for months? -- Due to different protocol requiring different account setup?
If the old connection won't work after the new CQG connect setup, then I may be down until the new V-1956 server with V-1488 instance-2 in other folder is all perfect.
If so, I better study this longer, before a "no fallback" commitment.

We do not know where you are seeing this. Where do you see this exactly? Can you provide a screenshot. It certainly is not in the Message Log you provided.

It also is not a Sierra Chart message either.

The log I sent prior regarded Market stats feed under V1488 (I made no changes over the weekend).
I trade near-daily via V1488. This is first time it only backfilled but no live.

Stats normally come from DS3 or 4 server, right? I see TICK-SP trying ds01.ddfplus.com

I updated symbol settings, but recall: stat symbols back-fill to current time on start up, then stop feeding immediately intraday. But they work fine in sim if S.C. restarted later (4pm), supplying latest backfill.
Perfect run in sim should not work if symbols were not right. ie: TICK-NYSE probably never changes.

Stats only feed during regular session hours, to test symbols update.

Note: This same intraday stats feed failure occurs in 3 chartbooks separately and 2 of those as Main and Instance 2. These all worked fine until Monday, and were unchanged.
The one here is the "fast simple" chartbook with only 5 charts, 2 being Ticks.


After the open (08:39:58, completed download 08:40:09) for TICK-SP, then the chart just sits on 08:40:08 while other charts feed normally.

Did same for TICK-NYSE at 08:43:30, complete 08:44:50. Chart sits there- no feed.

For real-time updating of the market statistics like TICK-NYSE it is necessary to use a current version of Sierra Chart. We did indicate that before.

You can install another copy of Sierra Chart into a new folder on your system. The version that Message Log is from is an older version.

I got no notice that stats would quit Monday.
Why would simple Market stats handling change? In 2014, Sierra touted that stats would be widely available and that older versions could be used for a long time.

Where else can I get stats?

When I told you my attempt to use latest Version as server did not work, you said take it up with CQG.

I may quit CQG and AMP if I'm forced to upgrade to latest but the base connection doesn't even work.
CQG won't even talk to users not on their direct platform.

I'll give the new version as server another try, but surprising users with failed data feed and required immediate upgrade is not the Sierra Chart we signed up for in 2015.

We do apologize for this. We have had an update notice out for years though. This is why these update notices are put out. In general they should not be disregarded more than a few months.

The server update which cause the issue over the weekend was not something that we realized at the time was going to cause a problem for users of older versions.

But it is not something we can back away from because the changes are just too involved to reverse.

And the other thing is you just need to install another copy of Sierra Chart in another folder to receive the data. This is a quick and simple solution. And data sharing between instances is supported.

Yes this is certainly true and still is true and will continue to be. We will continue to maintain support for older versions for at least another year. The problem is that we cannot assure compatibility with external services. There cannot be an expectation this will always be the case. That is not reasonable.

No we do not mean that. We mean your broker and if that is AMP, you need to contact them. CQG is not a broker. They are trading technology provider. Only your broker can assist you on this. But we do have this information available here:
