Cannot add an External Data or Trading service Username to a managed custom study

See attached. The interface has changed and there is no longer an entry field for an external username.

here: https://www.sierrachart.com/UserControlPanel.php?page=ManageCustomStudiesDLLUsers&SCDLLName=TheRationalTrader

This is an urgent issue.

I appreciate the reply but this is not correct as I understand it. Certainly, it hasn't been correct for the last four years I've been doing this; nor does it match the instructions listed on the page itself.

There used to be an entry box specifically called "External Data or Trading Service Username" - This box is no longer present.

My question to Sierra Chart support is how do I specify who has access to a custom study when they do not have a direct SC account but instead come through an partner-integrated version of Sierra Chart like AT Charts.

I cannot use a generic name like you've specified. Assuming that would work it would give access to the study to all users of that partner-integrated version of SC.

We apologize for the delay.

The "External Data or Trading service Username" field is not required.

To add a new user, have the user update to the current version following the Fast Update instructions (Software Download: Fast Update)

Have them provide you the "Account Name" they see under Help >> About.

Only thing we're seeing is we can't do this until someone logs in once. Which means for example if I set up a new account, I have to wait until they login once, their attempt to access the study fails, and then they tell me, then I can authorize.

Yes, we see. Not sure if there is a practical solution to this.

I will ask the user to upgrade and see if I can authorize then. It's currently failing though I don't know what version he is using.

Will any existing authorizations need to be updated?

Will the authorization system break for all existing authorized users when they upgrade SC?

Could be neat if the system would accept the user ID and just wait for it to hit the server, and then push the downloads. Anyway probably a gross oversimplification but I think in the long run this is a good step.

You can start an account support ticket here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/UserControlPanel.php?page=SupportTickets

And provide us the user's account. We will then be able to check the reason for the failure.

Not at this time.

No, it would not.

The main issue with this is that there would be no method to validate that the entered account is correct or not.

Understood, so if it's incorrect, and no logins are registered say in 30 days, maybe you purge the record. So you don't have thousands of incorrect/invalid/unused account names.

I've confirmed this is working in the wild. I like the idea of validation of the user name for external accounts. Have had many issues in the past where the username I tried to authorize was incorrect and I have no way of knowing that until the user launches the software and nothing works.

I don't see an issue with the user needing to log in once so the SC systems can register the username. It's just an extra step in the setup procedure which is easy to add.

From my perspective, the failure here is that the web page instructions were not updated (or I and others like me using the system were not notified in some other way).

No lasting harm done. Thank you for the rapid response.

Take care,
shane
