I've confirmed this is working in the wild. I like the idea of validation of the user name for external accounts. Have had many issues in the past where the username I tried to authorize was incorrect and I have no way of knowing that until the user launches the software and nothing works. I don't see an issue with the user needing to log in once so the SC systems can register the username. It's just an extra step in the setup procedure which is easy to add. From my perspective, the failure here is that the web page instructions were not updated (or I and others like me using the system were not notified in some other way). No lasting harm done.
