I use Tick Charts which creates a new bar after a certain number of trades have been completed. When I add the standard Volume study, it only plots based on the number of trades. Is there a way to plot the number of contracts traded (i.e., contract volume, not number of trades) associated with each tick bar?

We are not understanding what you are wanting to see, or more specifically, how the Volume is not giving you what you are wanting. The volume per bar is going to be the number of contracts traded for that bar. This is the definition of the volume. Therefore, if you have a 5 tick (5 trades) bar with a volume of 10, the average trade size is 2. The only way to get down to the individual trade would be to use 1 tick bar. Hi John--thank you very much for your quick reply. Sorry that I was not clear. On a Tick chart, the standard Volume per bar study is the number of trades. It is not the number of contracts that traded for each Tick bar. For example, for Tick charts the Bar Period Type and Bar Period Value must be set. I have selected Number of Trades Per Bar and 1000, respectively. The Volume study will then plot 1000 for each bar since it is calculating the number of trades. The number of trades does not take into the account how many contracts were traded for each trade. It simply calculates the number of trades. For the Volume study, I want to see how many contracts traded within those 1000 trades. Does that help clarify my question?

What you are stating is definitely not true. If you have a 1000 tick chart ("Number of Trades" on the "Chart >> Chart Settings >> Bar Period" window) and add the "Volume" study, the volume will give you the total volume traded for each bar, which is not 1000. Attached is an image of what we are seeing. You will see the volumes are not all 1000. If you are seeing something different, then please get us an image of what you are seeing by following these instructions: Support Board Posting Information: Attaching or Posting a Screenshot/Image (Optional) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Hi John--thank you for your chart image. I have attached what I am seeing on my chart. As I went through your instructions on how to capture a screenshot image, I expanded the size of my Volume study. I discovered that the Volume for each bar is not exactly 1000, but is very close. If the study is calculating correctly, then this must mean that each NQ trade is close to 1 contract, which is surprising. I am interested if you can confirm that your chart looks the same when you try to replicate it.
