Hiya, since privacy is important to me I was wondering if you could please let me know:

If I connect to a live data service or trading service - what information about my Sierra Chart account is available to them or is it protected? For example, does the data provider or broker have access to my account name/login information/ the fact i'm connected to them, etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

An external Data or Trading service has no access to your Sierra Chart account information.

Ok cool, thanks for the quick reply. In that case, how do they know who I am when I place trades?

They certainly will know who you are when you place trades. They will know the account that you are using and they have all of the identity information on their file. And in some cases they will know that Sierra Chart is the program connected to the system.

This is not my thread, so excuse me if I'm intruding, but I'd like to know what role Sierra Charts plays specifically , and what kind
of access you have to accounts. (Do you collect trading statistics? Do you collect replay/simulator statistics? , are you able to see traders codes if they write any, and can you access their platform ? )

Or are you purely a platform software interface and nothing else? What raised the concern for me is that I seem to have to be online
in order to use the software. Though I have not been profitable to date, I notice that other people keep their strategy very secret and so I wonder if software companies such as this one, are able to 'spy' on their best traders? *If so , then I want to see too :)

I'm just curious about how this all works, and being drawn towards the shadows, this shadow seems to need answers. This is an industry where it seems the best traders are very secretive , and yet they use software that they don't know who is on the other end, or what the software really dose. As far as I know there is no authority that makes trading software's reveal all that they do, such as with the apple apps store and the like. The software has not been independently audited so to speak. So really we have no idea what this software does on the back end, or what data it collects. For all we know you could be "replaying" your best trader's simulations and learning all you can from their hard work. I'm not being paranoid here, just realistic. It's a shadow, and I think it probably should see some light.

No to all of these.

Lets hope it never comes to this. Once authority is given away someone or entity you think you might be able to trust, then you lose your rights.

For all we know you could be "replaying" your best trader's simulations and learning all you can from their hard work.
We could care less about this.

I believe you. But as for "we could care less about this". Natural economic laws would incentivize you to care. Everyone wants to make money. I have found this law to lead me to the truth nearly every time.

As for the regulating... there are many firms today that are used by the public that are audited by at least one independent organization. It doesn't have to be 'just one supreme organization'.... there are many, such as with accountants. I agree with not trusting one organization completely, thus the concern for brokers, and software used in trading. But I too do not
like that Apple and Android have singular "authority" or that it seems that way. (google too).

What it comes down to is that traders must take the broker's, or software maker's word for it.

Perhaps this is true, but we are just saying, that we do not care what users are doing other than to ensure that we provide the functionality that users require and it works reliably and is well-documented.

Yes. We cannot comment on anyone else, but we do protect users privacy to the extent we can. We are not going to intentionally or knowingly invade users privacy . We do know things like whether you are logged into Sierra Chart or not, what Data/Trading service you are using, how many installations of Sierra Chart you have, but nothing beyond that.

Ok, thanks again ! This was actually a topic that someone started on another forum, so I thought I'd get a different companies input.
