I believe you. But as for "we could care less about this". Natural economic laws would incentivize you to care. Everyone wants to make money. I have found this law to lead me to the truth nearly every time. As for the regulating... there are many firms today that are used by the public that are audited by at least one independent organization. It doesn't have to be 'just one supreme organization'.... there are many, such as with accountants. I agree with not trusting one organization completely, thus the concern for brokers, and software used in trading. But I too do not like that Apple and Android have singular "authority" or that it seems that way. (google too).
