Hello, I am having the same problem posted by User600819: "unable to load shared file".

I followed the procedure outlined, but it is still not solving the issue.

The Sierra4.config file is the file that contains the various settings for your Sierra Chart installation. It is not a chartbook. It can be sent with a chartbook if someone is wanting to share that information with you.
To use that Sierra4.config.new file, you would need to rename the Sierra4.config file in your main Sierra Chart installation folder first, so you do not overwrite it. Then copy the file to that same folder and change the name from Sierra4.config.new to Sierra4.config.

Thank you for your reply.

The message log is identical to the "unable to load shared file".
It appears that the platform recognizes the file, but it fails to open it even after completing the outlined procedure in the support board.

I have no specific code error to report.
The copy of the log was made after starting the platform and trying several times to open the file.

Are you saying that the problem is with the file named ExampleChartbook? In your case, this chartbook is setup to automatically load on startup, but it is not found. Generally, this is an example that we send with our software. Did you have your charts setup in this particular chartbook?

No, I deleted the "ExampleChartbook" (that is not the problem).
The real problem is with the "Sierra4.config" file that it was shared, and I am trying to open after following the procedure.
"John - SC Support [Direct Messages] - Posts: 14939
The Sierra4.config file is the file that contains the various settings for your Sierra Chart installation. It is not a chartbook. It can be sent with a chartbook if someone is wanting to share that information with you.
To use that Sierra4.config.new file, you would need to rename the Sierra4.config file in your main Sierra Chart installation folder first, so you do not overwrite it. Then copy the file to that same folder and change the name from Sierra4.config.new to Sierra4.config."

After starting the platform and selecting the file in the data folder, I do not get any uploads of the chartbook selected. Specifically, the platform does not start loading the graphs and indicators.
The platform remains unchanged in the main page without any further process or error codes even in the log.

If it can help when I started the platform the first time after the file was shared, I received the following message:
"A new main configuration file has been received from the server. Press OK to install this file. Sierra Chart will be restarted."

The Sierra4.config file is just a settings file. It is not a chartbook and does not contain any charts.

Was there a chartbook also shared with you that you do not have?

Ok, thank you. Just to clarify, what is possible to share with this modality?

The file was automatically downloaded via the shared system that you offer on the platform, but it was the only one shared.
I tried to open the file even as a study on a chart, but it is not working.

Chartbooks, Spreadsheets, and Study Collections can be sent from any user to any other user. You would just need to know their Sierra Chart Account Name in order to send them the information, or they would need to know yours in order for them to send it to you. Refer to the information here:
File Menu: Send File to User (File)

Note that the Account Name is different from the name shown in this Forum. The names in this forum are just for posting and will not work as the name to send to.

You can also send the Global Configuration file (Sierra4.config) that contains the global settings. This is a separate option for sending when on the Send File window. Again, refer to the link above.

Thank you for the clarification.

In this case, I am experiencing a problem with the Global Configuration File (Sierra4.config). How can I open the global configuration file?

You do not open it specifically. It is opened as part of Sierra Chart when you start the software. If someone shared the file with you, then you need to put it into the main Sierra Chart installation folder (typically C:\SierraChart). Make sure the file has the name 'Sierra4.config', if there is another extension, then you would need to change it.

That's all there is to it. When you start Sierra Chart your settings will change to what is in that file.

Keep in mind, you may want to keep a copy of your original file before you overwrite it with the new one, in case you want to revert back.

Hi John,

A fellow SC user has shared his config file with me using the SC file send and I have accepted the download in my account control panel.

The file name is Sierra4.config.new.

How can I update / check that my SC has updated to include the new file? I also have 2 installations of SC. Will both be updated or do I need to do something manually to update both?

As noted above, you should get a notification when you start Sierra Chart asking you to use the file. If you say Yes, then it will automatically be put in the appropriate location. You should get the notification for each installation of Sierra Chart.

If you just have the file and you are not getting prompted about it, then you need to put the file manually into the correct location and with the correct name. Keep in mind that you should save your original Sierra4.config file before using the new one.

The file itself needs to be in the main Sierra Chart installation folder. Typically this is C:\SierraChart, but it could be different on your system (and at least one installation of yours will be different). Make sure Sierra Chart is not running. The original file is named Sierra4.config. You should save that, and then copy the Sierra4.config.new to this folder and then rename it to Sierra4.config.

Hi John, the file was shared to me through Sierra Chart, so I do not have the file separately. The file was downloaded onto my Sierra Chart, but my Sierra Chart looks the same before downloading the file and after downloading the file, which makes me uncertain if the shared config file was updated to my SC.

Are you using chart specific graphics settings for most (if not all) of your charts? This would explain why there would not be any changes, as the changes are to the Global Graphics Settings.

But as long as you accepted the file, then it should have replaced your existing one.

Got it. Is there any way for me to check/see what's different between the shared config file and the original SC config file?

There is not a way to look at the file and see.

You could compare the files to each other, if you have both of them, which would just tell you if they are different, but not what is different.
