I've been using Sierra Charts to participate in the Topstep Trader program. A couple days ago my Sierra Charts system seemed to freeze, but not quite. It was terribly slow and charts were not fully updating. I could enter orders, but the process was very slow. My configuration is complex, with many open charts, overlays and even custom data--so I thought the problem may be with my database. So I tried a clean install with no studies and just 2 charts open and had the same error messages. (The new install was on the same PC. I have not yet tried this connection on another PC, although I have 2 other instances of Sierra Charts running on a different PC but they are not connecting to TopStep.) So it seems the problems is with the connection. Topstep reached out to CTS to see if they had an idea of the problem. They did not, and suggested I reach out to Sierra Charts. I wanted to avoid the frivolous support inquiry, but I cannot come up with a resolution on my own. Here are some of the content from the message log. This repeated hundreds of times... ------------------ Socket (2722) | Socket gracefully closed by remote side. | 2018-02-22 16:07:08 Socket (2722) | Closed. | 2018-02-22 16:07:08 CTS FIX Historical Data: Sending the Logon message. | 2018-02-22 16:07:08 CTS FIX Historical Data: Connected to Historical data server. | 2018-02-22 16:07:08 HD Request # 1839 | Requesting historical Second data for CL.20180400.CME_NY from 2018-02-22 00:00:00 to 2018-02-22 00:00:00 (US Central Time). | 2018-02-22 16:07:08 File >> Disconnect selected. | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 Canceling historical data download request for 6B.20180300.CME_Fo Intraday data. | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 Removed historical data download ID 2444 | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 HD Request # 1839 | Download canceled. | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 HD Request # 1839 | Received 0 records from 00:00:00 to 00:00:00 (0.0 seconds) and wrote 0 records for CL.20180400.CME_NY | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 HD Request # 1839 | Completion time: 1s | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 HD Request # 1839 | Intraday data download complete for CL.20180400.CME_NY. In general we do hear about connectivity problems to CTS, due to a CTS server issue, there really is not anything we can do about them. This particular portion of the Message Log does not indicate any particular problem. We see nothing unusual there since you have performed this action: File >> Disconnect selected. | 2018-02-22 16:07:09 One of the solutions would be to use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed: Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed Although if there are any problems related to CTS trading, this is not going to solve that but it will certainly solve any data feed problems. Hi User953894, I'm in TST too, and had problems immediately when updating to 1705. Possible 1705 CTS FIX error I mention this only to say there may be a couple of issues happening here -- CTS server issue with "disconnects", and SC CTS FIX error with "historical data loading" -- the latter one fixed soon by SC hopefully. Both CTS and Sierra Charts are quality products, and the best available to retail traders. There are other threads about recent CTS feed "disconnect" issues, like this one: Data Disconnect I sincerely hope the FIX historical data issue is corrected soon with 1706 (I haven't tested yet the 1706 pre-release but you could try that and report back here). CTS is still better than Rithmic, which the TST Ninjatrader guys use. And SC is better than Ninja by a mile. As far as the SC's real-time CME futures feed, I used it for months, but recently switched back to the main CTS FIX feed since that's what funded TST traders have to use. SC says their real-time futures feed might be used with TST in the future, but it boils down to TST wanting to support that: Incomplete exit for CTS server-side OCO | Post: 127020 If SC gets their own futures exchange up and running, hopefully it will garner industry attention and TST or other futures prop firms will move to it: About Real-time Futures Data | Post: 138268 Sign me up. These recent issues are feed issues, and using SC for everything (charting + data + execution) would provide the best seamless and hassle-free experience, saving traders time and money. |

and SC CTS FIX error with "historical data loading" -- the latter one fixed soon by SC hopefully. This actually has already been corrected promptly. Update to the latest prerelease:Software Download: Fast Update CTS users really should not be using version 1705 because of the historical data issue. And from the users log in the first post in this thread, we could not recognize that was the problem they were having. We should've thought of it though. If SC gets their own futures exchange up and running, hopefully it will garner industry attention and TST or other futures prop firms will move to it: Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. It seems that I'm not getting the history error messages and it looks like entering orders isn't a problem like it was for 2 days. The system looks mostly functional but there's a gap of historical data (pretty much all of 2-26) that is not being painted on my charts. I've tried the reload & recalculate command several times but with no effect (it seems the recalculate occurs, but there result is the same as before the request to reload was sent to the server). I also tried updating to the pre-release with Fast Update but the update does not appear to actually occur. So I'm not completely clear on what I should do at this time. One of the comments is I should not be on 1705, but 1706 doesn't appear to load. Should I revert to the prior release? And are these problems somehow related to initiating the 64-bit platform? A huge thanks to the other user who updated my post with related info!! I'm also with you on the opinion of Sierra Charts vs. Ninja. But this is a pretty major bump in the road. I'm sure it'll get resolved soon though. Thank you in advance for your help! |

Update again to the latest "Prerelease" following the instructions here: Software Download: Fast Update Make sure you update to the prerelease. There should be no problem with updating. I have never had any problem with Fast Update before, but this time it simply would not run despite several attempts. I was able to download the installer and update "manually", and selected the Pre-release version, which installed version 1707, not 1706. I continue to have the data gap, however. There is only a small amount of data for any chart yesterday (26 Feb). Selecting "Reload and Recalculate" seems to execute very quickly (the screen returns much more quickly than I would expect) BUT the missing data has not been populated on the chart. I have tried this on several charts but again, the data is NOT properly updating. |

Can you right-click the chart and pick "Delete and Download Data"? Try these instructions if you haven't yet: Historical Intraday Data (Missing Data / Download Errors / Viewing More Data): Retrying the Download When There is Data in the Chart |
