Remote instance charts stop updating

Remote instance charts are not updating correctly. Charts working fine until at seemingly random points in time charts stop updating / freeze. Points in time are either ETH close or other random times. Opening the symbol on the source instance gets the chart working on the remote instance again, temporarily, until the next time it stops. This is happening in instances 1445/1448 (1445 remote, 1448 source). Please help in troubleshooting this. Thanks.

What is the method by which you are using charts in a remote instance? You should be using the method documented here: Data and Trading Communications (DTC) Protocol Server: Using DTC Server for Data and Trading in Another Sierra Chart Instance The method of selecting an Instance through File >> Find Symbol is still technically supported but is no longer documented and we do not provide support for it anymore. Moved the chartbook with the problem charts from the remote to the source instance, and realized the problem has nothing to do with remote instances. Charts are now on the source instance, and still stop updating at random times. This is using Rithmic as data feed. SC version 1448. All graphs in the problem charts stop updating, yet price box on the y axis keeps on updating (see attached screnshot, showing price for SI at 14:45 today). This happens on detached charts. The way to solve it is going to chart settings and reselecting the symbol thru "find". Please let me know what you need for troubleshooting this. Thanks. |

Open a new chart for a symbol that is not updating. Does that chart update correctly? When you notice this problem, refer to help topic 3.4: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails3.html#h3.4 There is no attached chart, but we do not need it. If I open a new chart for a symbol that is not updating, the new chart opens fine, and the chart with the symbol that was not updating automatically updates. I went through https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails3.html#h3.4 and none of the possible causes listed there is applicable here. The issue seems to be with some symbols not updating after disconnections. Today for example the Message Log shows a disconnection at 11:33:20. Sierra Chart reconnected to the data feed at 11:33:50. Upon reconnecting, charts for 3 CME symbols I keep detached stopped updating - only the charts/bars stopped updating, SC kept on receiving real time price updates. No problem in symbols not detached from the SC instance main window. And no problem in 3 other CME symbols I also keep detached. In general, the only pattern I have observed is that I never experience a problem with the non detached charts. This time 3 detached files stopped updating; it usually is all of the detached ones. I will post an extract of the Message Log upon re-connection (after the 11:33:20 disconnection) pertaining to one of the symbols that stopped updating, and for one of the symbols that updated correctly. It definitely does not matter whether the chart is attached to the main window or not. It is impossible for that to be the issue. Basically what it sounds like is there is not an historical data download being started for the symbol which is not updating on the Intraday chart. That is quite unusual. There could be some causes for this and all known possible issues are documented in help topic 3: Https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=helpdetails3.html If I open a new chart for a symbol that is not updating, the new chart opens fine, and the chart with the symbol that was not updating automatically updates.
If you keep this chart open, do you then notice a problem after a reconnection to the data feed?

Did you start noticing this problem with any particular version?

This started in one of the 144x SC versions, not sure which, and not sure if related at all. Either way, file corruption may have been the cause, as manually deleting the files and redownloading all may have solved the problem. Certainly hope so. I have not had another problem since doing so last night. Will report back if this arises again in the near future. Still a very odd occurrence. Have had SC running almost non-stop for almost 900 days and it is the first time I experience this behavior upon a disconnection. EDIT: this issue is similar to what I experience regularly with IB data, but the IB case is a known issue stemming from using True Real-Time Data. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2016-08-09 23:38:13

Yes, it is very unusual. We were concerned about it, but did not have a clear idea about it. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
