We would need to see the Message Log from the sub-instance where you are having an issue by following these instructions: Follow the instructions here to clear the Message Log:
Message Log: Clearing the Message Log Close all of the Chartbooks with "File >> Close All Chartbooks". Open a single chart for the symbol you have an issue with through "File >> Find Symbol". Tell us that symbol of the chart. Tell us about *one* symbol only. Disconnect from the data feed with "File >> Disconnect". Connect to the data feed with "File >> Connect to Data Feed". After the connection and after about 10 seconds, provide a copy of the Message Log following these instructions: Support Board Posting Information: How to Post Your Message Log (Required In Some Cases) We will then determine what the problem is. How do you know the icon in the task bar is for a second instance? If you select "File >> New Instance" does a new instance come up properly? For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

It looks like you have exited from the main Sierra Chart instance and left a sub-instance running. At this point, we want you to shutdown your computer and wait for 30 seconds after it turns off. Then turn it back on again and start Sierra Chart. If sub-instances are not set to start automatically, then do NOT start any sub-instances. Make sure the main instance comes up correctly first and you are able to work with it. Then, after your main instance is up and running without any issues, then start a sub-instance and see if it starts without a problem. If you have an issue, then we would need to know what it is. Ok, we understand what is occurring now. The icon you are using to start Sierra Chart is set to start a Sub-Instance and not the correct main instance. You can not start a Sub-Instance directly, you need to have the main instance running and then have that main instance start the sub-instance by either selecting "File >> New Instance" or through the setting to automatically starting instances. You need to setup your Main Sierra Chart instance to start properly, from whatever method you prefer to do this through. If you are not comfortable with setting up desktop icons, then do the following: - Delete any desktop icons you have for Sierra Chart. - Use the Operating System tools to go to the main Sierra Chart installation folder (typically this is C:\SierraChart, but could be anywhere on your computer that you put it). - Find the file named "SierraChart_64" - it is an executable file. Double click to run this file. - This will launch the main Sierra Chart instance. Once it is up, select "Global Settings >> Create Desktop Shortcut". - Exit from Sierra Chart. - Double click on the Sierra Chart icon on your desktop to start the main instance of Sierra Chart. Everything should be fine from here. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

What a mess, lost most of my charts. Like starting all over, will take me a week or so to set everything back to where it was. Moving averages etc. I still believe a 5 minute phone support would have prevented this.

I've got one of my regular charts on the left monitor and the sub instance next to it so I can copy the graphic settings. Only, the graphic settings on the sub charts do nothing cannot change any graphic settings ?? Trying to find a work around.

On my older charts under data trade settings it says sc data all services. On the new sub instance it says DTC sub instance trading ? Wrong ? Also when I try to save a chart I get a long list of items. On my old charts I get nothing, no list. I just want to trade not spend all day trying to set up charts.

If the Graphics Settings are not changing the items as you are expecting them to, then most likely you are changing the Graphics Settings in the wrong place. There are both Global Graphics Settings and Chart Specific Graphics Settings. The control for which one affects a chart is in the Chart specific graphics settings. Refer to the following: Graphics Settings: Using Different Color and Graphics Settings for Specific Charts On my older charts under data trade settings it says sc data all services. On the new sub instance it says DTC sub instance trading ? Wrong ? Also when I try to save a chart I get a long list of items. On my old charts I get nothing, no list. A Sub-Instance, started with "File >> New Instance" will have the "Current Selected Service" set to "DTC - Sub Instance". This is correct and is how it has been. Your Sub-Instances would never have been set to "SC Data - All Services". Ok, Ok, I stumbling along now but I want to have chartbooks numbered 1 through 15 but when I select new chartbooks I get.16,17,18 etc. It's been a long time since I've had to start a new instance from scratch.

I screwed up, I shut down and saved SC sub instance but forgot to pin the icon to the taskbar. Can you tell me how to get it back, step by step, it took me about 4 hours to set up the charts. I never had trouble like this.

Chartbooks are named however you want to name them. The default is an incrementing number, but you can save a Chartbook with whatever name you want to give it by selecting "File >> Save As". This is not making any sense to us. You do not pin a Sub-Instance to the Start Menu. We think this may be related to the issue you were having that started this. Sub-instances can only be started by selecting "File >> New Instance" from within the Main instance of Sierra Chart, or if you have setup the Sub-Instances to start automatically with the Main instance. You should NEVER start a Sub-Instance directly. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Well that worked sorta, But when I selected new instance from the main instance I did get a sub instance. However, all that does is copy the layout from that chartbook. I spent 4 hrs yesterday setting up that sub instance, ma's studies etc. no fun. What do I do now to prevent losing all that work. Before, I just pinned it to the task bar and clicked on it after boot up,no problem. I've lost 3 days trading because of this issue. Still not resolved completely.

If you saved a Chartbook in a Sub-Instance, then it should be there. The only time the system copies the chartbooks from the main instance is when a sub-instance is first created. It sounds like you may have an additional sub-instance that is not the particular sub-instance number you want. Keep in mind they will open in order - Sub-Instance #2, then Sub-Instance #3, etc. And again - do NOT pin a sub-instance to the taskbar and start it that way. That is what caused the problem in the first place. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

I'm still going to pin it to the task bar, I've been doing it that way the past 2 years or so. If there is a problem then I'll do it your way. Phone support would have fixed this convoluted mess in 5 minutes or less. Sometimes it's the best way to go. |
