Hello,
i have created two new chart-books one in main instance and another in sub-instance.
Both of these chart-books have same symbol which is ESZ23-CME.
downloaded the data when i opened these charts in these two chart-books.
Saved and closed both these chart-books (in main instance and sub instance)
Then closed the Sierra chart completely and turned-off the PC.

After 15mins logged back into both Main instance and sub-instance
opened both chart-books in respective instances.
The chart in main-instance downloads the data that was missing for 15mins.
but the chart in sub-instance DOES NOT download the data that was missing for 15mins.
Please see the screenshots attached.
This issue is making sub-instances un-usable at all.

FYI:
I'm using SC in SIM mode and selected "SC Data- All services"
and i have tried the following on the sub-instance:
- Tried disconnecting and reconnecting to the data and no use.
- Tried doing "Edit>> Edit/download Data - intraday chart" and this makes the chart even worse.

Please see the screenshots attached

Please update to the latest release. There was some work on data in Sub-Instances relatively recently, so we think your issue is already resolved.

Follow the instructions at the following link to update:

In the sub instance do the following:

Follow the instructions here to clear the Message Log:
Message Log: Clearing the Message Log

Fully re-download the data in the chart by going to the chart and selecting "Edit >>Delete All Data and Download".

Or, in the case of a Continuous Futures Contract chart, follow these instructions:
Continuous Futures Contract Charts: Re-Downloading Continuous Futures Contract Data

After about 2 to 3 minutes provide a copy of the Message Log following these instructions:
Support Board Posting Information: How to Post Your Message Log (Required In Some Cases)

We will then determine what the problem is.

Another question, Do you NOT see the same on your end?
Also this is not a continuous contract. I'm using very simple chart for ES-Z contract.
Thanks

The problem is not with a particular version. The problem is not reproducible.

This is also not a valid installation folder:
C:\Users\Srinath\Desktop\Programs\

If this is where you want to install Sierra Chart, that is up to you, but we are very concerned about a location like that and problems with file access. We are just simply letting you know.

Follow the instructions here to update the symbol settings and disable the use of custom symbols:

Global Symbol Settings: Update Global Symbol Settings

Then we want you to follow these instructions:

Follow the instructions here to clear the Message Log:
Message Log: Clearing the Message Log

Connect to the data feed:

Select "File >> Disconnect"

Select "File >> Connect to Data Feed"

After about 30 seconds, provide a copy of the Message Log following these instructions:
Support Board Posting Information: How to Post Your Message Log (Required In Some Cases)

We will then determine what the problem is.

can you let me know if there is a way force to download the chart for the missing timeframe, so i can make sure to force download the data after i open sub-instances.

if there is no fix for this issue- may i know what are the other options i have on my table for using multiple chartbooks?
FYI, my chartbooks have a lot of studies in them so i must sub-instances or some form of instances so i can load share my CPU cyles.

The Message Log in post # 10 looks good to us.

To download the missing data:

Re-download all the data in the chart by going to the chart and selecting "Edit >> Delete All Data and Download". You just need to do this once per symbol and not for each chart.

If you have a further issue let us know.

i still see same issue with sub-instances. when i do a "Edit>> Delete all data and download", i see no response with a blue ribbon saying "downloading historical data. bars may not appear until done"

Please see the screenshots attached.
The one with the blue ribbon is from main-instance and the one without is from sub-instance.
for sub-instance you will see a data gap 21.32 to 22.32 as well.

I really need some help here on what are my next steps.
looks like Sub-instances are not able to download the historical data at all.

Again in the sub instance do the following:

Follow the instructions here to clear the Message Log:
Message Log: Clearing the Message Log

Connect with File >> Connect to Data Feed.

After about a minute provide a copy of the Message Log following these instructions:
Support Board Posting Information: How to Post Your Message Log (Required In Some Cases)

We will then determine what the problem is.

hello,

i did send a message log using the "send for analysis" button on the message log window.
please let me know if once you receive it.
also let me know if you did not receive it

Looks like changing the contract to "continuous contract" and following the steps depicted there has fixed the issue, but once i close the chart book & re-opening after sometime has caused the issue to come back.
Basically, the issue is that i keep missing the data for the time-frame between closing & opening the Chart-book and the data does not download when i reopen the chartbook. The same thing does NOT happen when i use the same chart-book in main instance.

is there a way we can schedule sometime on our calendars so we can do a screen-share? Please let me know. Thank much in advance for your help.

Yes we will have to do a remote assistance session this week.

Did you start that sub instance of Sierra Chart by using File >> New Instance?

looks like i found the solution- the following setting should be set to "NO", else the data will NOT update in the sub-instances
After setting this setting to "NO" in main instances and all sub-instances, and then restarting the SC made everything work properly.

global setting >> general settings >> general (tab) >> "Always copy configuration files to new instances when started"

This setting should be set to "NO".

This could definitely be a bug, because the setting is irrelevant to the use-case, but still blocked data in sub-instances.

Hope this helps

It is not that setting itself which is/was causing the problem. There is some more specific cause.
