Dear Support

Not an urgent request but can you clarify why the study calculation time displayed in the Studies >> Study to Graph form - can be very different despite identical charts and settings.

My Chartbook has 4 identical charts.

Chart 1 including a single study - was (initially) duplicated to provide Chart 2, 3 and 4.

On initial setup (loading the 1 study) calculation times displayed are:

1 1ms
2 1ms
3 1ms
4 1ms

On reloading the chartbook:

1 133m - 162ms
2 1ms
3 1ms
4 1ms

The single study on each chart is updated via ACS Buttons however making changes does not change the calculation time. Chart 1 (the first chart I loaded the study into) is still significantly longer when the chartbook is reloaded?

I also deleted the study from each chartbook and then added it back to each chart individually. The outcome was the same - all 1ms until chartbook reloaded.

Just confusing and doesn't seem logical but I'm sure there is a simple answer.

Lastly, sometimes when opening a large ChartBook Group I receive the message Sierra Chart not responding - but the ChartBooks do open and seemingly without issue. If the ChartBooks do open despite the message is this anything to worry about re corruption, or is it just related to processor workload as stated in the SC Manual?

Many thanks.

My 2 cents... you are adding a lot of variability into these calculations with these many charts. In my experience, these values become more 'reliable' if you close out everything in the instance and just recalculate one study collection on one chart to truly decipher which study is long running. Calculation times also depend on the number of days/bars setting also so more data to look back will result in slower times.... which is not a good representative of individual study overall performance while processing at the tick level imo. Anyways, performance tuning of study collection and management is a complex process dependent on many factors so it is best to simplify and play around. I would also suggest to disconnect from the data feed, use only one or two days of data and tweak tuning on a master/primary installation of SC.

p.s. These are just my own tips on how I handle my own studies.

Hi thank you for taking the time to reply.

The longer the calculation period and complexity of the study, then granted the longer the calculation time. But when we are considering a single, simple study with a sub 100 bar lookback then it does not really impact on things especially given Sierra's language and todays computers. Obviously if it was Tick date and the lookback was extreme and the calculations complex, then that's a different story but in this instance I'm pretty sure the delay is the result of the initial chart's study monitoring the ACS user inputs. I can only assume the Toolbar only remains in focus for the first chart. Hence, the reason only one of the identical charts has the increased calculation time.

After 12+ years using SC after starting with SuperCharts, I'm still amazed at its functionality, speed and ability.

Maybe John or support will comment at some point.
