Been using SC for years and have never been able to figure out scaling. A simple bar chart of price with no studies, range bars of ES. Automatic - price drifts off Independent - screen goes blank Same as region - screen goes totally blank including price scale on right Constant range - very jerky as the center resets with every tick. This is the ONLY option where price does not wander off the screen. User defined - price drifts off. Zero based - Entire chart in top 1/16th inch of screen The three Constant range option check boxes at the bottom do nothing. It seems to make no difference if they are checked or not. I see no change at all. I very simply want 1) Price to stay on the screen and not drift out of view. 2) The chart to re-center whenever price gets near the edge. What can I do? I won't even get into study scaling for now. That has a mind of it's own. Moving constantly, re-ranging constantly, even when price is doing nothing. What you are describing indicates that you have changed the main price graph and study scales using Interactive Scale Move and/or Interactive Scale Range. The simple solution is to select Chart >> Reset Scales and you are all set. And also use an Automatic scale. Moving constantly, re-ranging constantly, even when price is doing nothing.
The scale for a study if set to Automatic will adjust based upon changing prices with the study. And if you offset or change the scale from its default position, then you may see a study getting partially cut off and not completely visible. Not much help. 1) Why does scaling completely stop functioning as soon as I move anything, either range or position. That is the biggest problem. Very often what "Reset Scales" gives you is unusable so I have to move the range or position but that turns off all scaling so the price wanders off the screen. Very silly. 2) Reset Scales sends it back to factory default which often is no good, so... then what? 3) This morning my histogram study has decided to rescale itself to such a large range that the study looks like a line. It does this constantly thru the day, every time I go to look at it I have to rescale first. Why does it do these things? 4) Why do the three "Constant range" check boxes at the bottom do nothing? I would love if "Keep last bar in view" actually did that.. 5) Can you set a margin some how so the top tick is not right on the edge of the screen like "reset scales" wants it to be? SC has major scaling issues that need to be addressed. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2014-01-30 12:00:34

1. Why does scaling completely stop functioning as soon as I move anything, either range or position We do not understand this. Stop functioning in what way?Very often what "Reset Scales" gives you is unusable so I have to move the range or position but that turns off all scaling so the price wanders off the screen. Very silly.
This makes no sense. The default scaling will show all values from the price bars and studies. After you Reset Scales, then post an image of the chart by following these steps:https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=PostingInformation.php#Image 2. Post an image of the chart that you see after you use this command. Here are the instructions: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=PostingInformation.php#Image 3. We cannot answer this. We have insufficient information. And actually, we are completely puzzled at what you are describing in this thread. With the way you are presenting this, we have never heard of such things and it does not make sense as you are claiming. 4. At this point, this is beside the point and you are misunderstanding the purpose of that setting. It is documented here: http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_Scaling.html 5. Yes. However, we want to understand the basic problem first. Basically this is accomplished by slightly compressing the scale with Interactive Scale Range. SC has major scaling issues that need to be addressed. No, most definitely there is not. Once again this is not making any sense. We have not heard this from anyone else and there cannot possibly be such a problem with such a basic function of the program. If there actually was it would have been immediately solved at the moment it existed.

Is there anyone other than support (which is usually very good except this time) who can make any suggestions?

OK, we just need an image of the chart after you have Reset the Scales so we can have more of an understanding. 3. If you could provide a video of this, that would help. No one here is going to help you, except us. We are the most qualified to help you. If you rely upon other users, you may get inaccurate information. It would also be hard for someone to help you, unless they are actually directly experiencing and seeing what you are. It is also possible there is a data error from the data feed you are using which is causing the scale for the main price graph and studies to be affected by that out of range value. Rather than saying everything you are, focus on one item, and provide us a before and after image and also provide us an image with the scales being reset. At this point, nobody has enough information to offer any help. Anyway, you said you will provide more information when you have the time. But do not expect any reliable answer to be given until then. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. 1.25r bar ES chart Scale set at Constant Range with "Keep last bar in view" checked below (This is what I want. "Automatic" does not give me what I want.) Price wanders off. Why does this happen? I have to hit reset scales constantly to keep price in view. This is a problem. |

We tested this and verified that the last bar was kept in view. However, take note of what the documentation says: Constant Range Scale: Keep Last Bar in View When the Scale Range is set to Constant Range or Constant Range Auto-Center , then the vertical scale will be adjusted to always ensure that the High and Low of the last bar is always in view on the chart. However, if you have used Interactive Scale Move to move the chart up or down, the High and Low could possibly move outside of the visible view in which case this option cannot keep the last bar High or Low within view. In this case right-click on the scale of numbers on the right side of the chart and select Reset to remove any Interactive Scale Move adjustments or double-click the scale on the right side of the chart. If you notice otherwise, then would you be able to provide a video of this. And we would have to see in the video that the scale was reset before you notice the last bar goes partially out of view. Now we have considered, that even if you have used Interactive Scale Move to move the chart up or down, that we would still keep the last bar within view when using Constant Range scaling. We will see about that. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point.
