Hello SC Support,
I have two computers with both Sierra Chart (Rithmic feeds) and Rithmic R trader installed. The password to log in to R trader and DTS in Sierra Chart were the same and set by my broker. One day, I changed the password in R trader on one computer and this new password worked for DTS in Sierra Chart (and of course in R Trader) on that same computer.

Now I'm using the same new password in R trader and Sierra Chart on the second computer. It works with R trader but not with DTS in Sierra Chart. I keep getting "connecting" and "waiting to reconnect". Here is the log:

This is the relevant error message:

Rithmic Trading | Message from server: Server Alert: Market Data Connection Login Failed. Result text: "permission denied" | 2016-04-15 07:43:47

There can be other causes of this other than an incorrect Password but still you should double check the Rithmic Username and Password. Refer to the instructions here:

The username and the new password work for Rithmic R Trader. I've tried to log in so many times and successfully every time. It's the connection in Sierra Chart. What's confusing is it works on one computer but doesn't on the other computer. My broker remote control the computer and tried everything, including the firewall, but it's still not working.

Yes we know. This is the major problem with Rithmic and one reason why we dislike it.

Your broker will have to contact Rithmic support for help with this.

Rithmic will need to see the log file. Or you could provide us the log file and we will send it to them and see what they say.

Attach the Rithmic log file in the Logs subfolder in the Sierra Chart folder. There is only one Rithmic log file there.

It can be privately attached:

I don't have a logs subfolder in the SC folder. I have folders for source, sound, backups, data, DTC, graphics, images, NPP, Rim, and Transact. I also went into the data folder but didn't see any file for logs. Where else can I find it?

We were mistaken. The Rithmic log file is contained within the Rim subfolder of the Sierra Chart installation folder.

There can be a Logs folder off of the main Sierra Chart folder, but that does not exist unless certain logging features are enabled.

Log file attached here. I'd really appreciate it if you could pass it along to Rithmic.

Your log file has been deleted because it is no longer needed.

This is from Rithmic:
I can confirm that the user is failing to login because his user name was entered with a trailing space. This is not intuitive from reading the logs.

Ask the user to remove the trailing space.
Also, the password entered when logging in as '** ' (username removed) is not correct- perhaps they are also entering a space when entering the password? Did they cut and paste the user/password and cut and space included a trailing space?

A couple of things about what Rithmic has said:

In the next release of Sierra Chart, Sierra Chart will trim the leading and trailing whitespace from the Username and Password used with Rithmic. We had thought this was already the case but perhaps with some of the code changes that have been done over the last couple of years, this somehow got removed.

You can use the direct Rithmic connection in one instance of Sierra Chart and share that market data and trading functionality in multiple other instances. This is documented here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_DTCServer.php#UsingDTCServerForDataAndTradingInAnotherSCInstance

So this makes it more simple in that you only need to use a single connection to Rithmic.

Thank you very much for the followup!

What's a "trailing space"? My username was assigned by my broker (AMP). It takes form of an email address (@amp.com) and the letters before "@" are all lower case except the last one (upper case). There is no space or any odd characters.

My password consists of 8 numbers. No letters, space or anything odd. Plus, I have been able to log in onto Sierra Chart and Rithmic R trader and get live data without a problem on my FIRST computer. I'm having trouble with DTS in Sierra Chart ONLY on my SECOND computer.

Also, the link you posted seems for multiple instances on THE SAME computer. Does it apply to my case?

A trailing space is simply a space character at the end of the Username or Password.

We recommend manually typing those into Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings.

The information provided here also is for using Sierra Chart on other computers:
