Hello,

Recently, I had to replace the hard drive on my PC and as a result was not able to load my previous workbooks.

I have attempted to restore the files by renaming them as .backup but I still cannot get my charts to open. I have also received the following message: There has been a configuration file checksum error.

I appreciate any help you may provide.

Thank you,
Pat Hair

We are not understanding what you are doing. There is no reason to name anything with a .backup extension. If you have access to your old chartbooks on the other drive, then you just need to copy them from the old drive to the new one. Refer to the following:
Transferring Sierra Chart Settings and Data From Existing Installation to New Installation: Transferring Sierra Chart Settings and Data From Existing Installation to New Installation

A "file checksum error" means there is a problem with the file and it is most likely corrupted. You will not be able to use that file.

Hello,

My hard drive was removed by my PC technician and is no longer available. The following is a copy of your Help files.
Resetting Sierra Chart to a Default State
[Link] - [Top]

There is no need to uninstall and reinstall Sierra Chart to reset to a default state. To reset Sierra Chart to a default state for whatever reason, perform the steps below.

Resetting Sierra Chart to a default state does not cause any of the Chartbooks, chart data files (DLY and SCID file extensions), Spreadsheets, Trade Activity data to be lost. Those will remain.

The default installation folder path for Sierra Chart is C:\SierraChart\. The installation folder path can be determined through Window >> Message Log. Look at the Program path: line at the top of the Message Log. Make a note of this folder path.
Exit Sierra Chart if it is running with File >> Exit.
Go to the Sierra Chart installation folder on your computer that you made a note of in an earlier step.
Rename some or all of the following files and folders by adding .backup to them. Only rename the files that you wish to have reset back to default.
Sierra4.config (Contains all of the global settings in Sierra Chart. This includes settings set through all of the configuration windows under the Global Settings menu. Chart specific settings, like the settings in Chart >> Chart Settings, are held in Chartbooks and not this file. Sierra4.config does not include Account related settings or Global Symbol Settings and can be safely shared with others.)

Thanks or your help,

Pat Hair

You cannot restore your prior files. You do not have them. They are stored on a drive that you say is no longer available.

Regarding the checksum error, there should be a file name given, indicating which file has a checksum error. What file?

Hello,

I snapped picture on my phone. The picture shows Sierra Chart in the upper left corner then the line that reads "There has been a configuration file checksum error." A button in the lower right simply reads OK.

Thank you,
Pat

There is nothing in the log about a Checksum error in a file. So we do not know what is occurring with that. Are you still getting that message? If so, then we need to see an image of it.

In your log, however, it shows that you are having an error with the chartbooks named the following:
- Pat 2025 Chartbook.Cht
- Pat 2025 Nas.cht

These chartbooks are having issues and will need to be removed and redone. We are confused on whether you have old files, as we do not know where you are getting these files from. If you do have access to your old files, then you can see if you have access to backup copies of those files and try to restore a backup. To do this, you will need to copy the backup file and rename it into the "Data" folder for your current Sierra Chart installation.

Hello,

The checksum error has not appeared again. The files have been copied, renamed and copied into the Data folder. I have also included them in the General Settings to open automatically upon login.

I saved the settings and closed the platform. When I opened the platform again, the missing files do not appear and the price data is not flowing.

The most recent Message Log is copied below:

Thank you,
Pat

We do not understand the statement that "When I opened the platform again, the missing files do not appear and the price data is not flowing."

If there are missing files, then they cannot appear, as they are missing. We see see charts opening for the symbol SIK25_FUT_CME.

Please explain exactly the issue you are having at this time. We are very confused on what you have done and what has occurred and the particular problem you are having.

The files are visible in my File Explorer. Path>Sierra Chart>Data but they do not open when the platform is started. The only workbook that opens is SILVER and there should be 3 workbooks that open. Also, there is no price movement.

Are you referring to Chartbooks?

If a chart is not updating, refer to:
Intraday Chart or Chart Bars Not Updating | Blank Intraday Chart | "Currently no data to display" message for Intraday Chart

Also this is the reason for the problem:

The Chartbook file is not compatible. Contact Sierra Chart support for help with converting it. File: C:\SierraChart\Data\Pat 2025 Chartbook.Cht *

Use a backup Chartbook. Refer to:

With regards to the chart not updating, part of the issue with this is that you have the following exchange active with us:
- CME Non-Professional Top-of-Book

Silver is traded on the COMEX exchange, and you are not setup to get real-time data for that exchange. But you should be getting delayed streaming data, depending on what Service you are connected to. What is "Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Main Settings >> Current Selected Service" set to?

If you wait at least 10 minutes after you open the chart, does the data start flowing for the Silver charts?

If you want to get real-time data for Silver, then you need to get the data for COMEX. Refer to the following instructions:
Denali Exchange Data Feed: Changing Denali Exchange Data Feed Exchange Selections
