I recently lost the key board shortcuts i had programmed in one of my subinstances.
When i retrieved the global settings Sierra4.config they were not present.
I will plan to reprogram them again but wanted to know if this is something i should do in my main instance, subinstance or both ?
How can i save these settings and then retrieve them if they are “lost”
Thank you

The first thing is to check the backups for the Sierra4.config file. It sounds like you did this, but make sure you did it within the Sub-Instance for which you are having the issue. Refer to the information here:
Resetting Sierra Chart to a Default State / Restoring Backup Global Configuration File: Restoring Backup Global Configuration File

The other thing that you can do, if the configurations are the same between your instances (that is, you use the same colors and keyboard shortcuts, control bars, etc.) then you can copy the Sierra4.config file from one of the other instances to the instance where you have an issue.

If this is going into a sub-instance, then you would not need to make any changes and you should be fine just copying and pasting the file. But if you copy from a sub-instance to your main instance, then you would need to update your Data/Trade Service Settings back to what they were prior to the file being replaced.

If i enter keyboard shortcuts in my main instance. Will that automatically be used or appear in the subinstance ? Or do i have to enter it separately there as well ?

I understand what you are saying - i could also copy the .config file from the main instance to the subinstance.
Thank you

When you enter them on the main instance they are only copied to the Sub-Instance the first time the sub-instance is created/used. After that, the instances are completely separate from one another and you would have to copy the file between the instances. And do not try to setup any shortcuts or links between the files, as that will cause issues (just copy and paste as needed when the software is not running).

The reason for the above is that when a sub-instance is first created, the setup is taken from the main instance, so the files are copied from there to the sub-instance. But once that is done, it does not do it any further.
