Sell Ask Did not Execute

I put a trade on (details below) and it looks like it was not executed. I am trying to find two things
- Why? I suspect it was because of the use of a Sell Ask order.
- What to look for to see if this has happened in the future.

Steps
- I went short MGC 1 min after significant news.
- The SL, Entry and TP profit appeared on the chart. The SL was a trailing Step that has worked before.
- Two minutes later, it should have been in profit of > 3:1 but the SL was not moving.
=> I did what I do in all circumstances where "something is wrong" and hit flatten.

I can see the orders in the Orders Window, I don't see anything in the fills and nothing of any significance it the Trade Activity or Service Log.
Other possible indicators e.g. account balance suggest nothing happened.

I can send any log/screen shot you want but don't want to send 5 log files many of which may be of know use.

So can you help me with:
- What to do to confirm it did not execute (although 99% sure it did not)?
- When executing, SL, TP and entry lines appearing on the chart are not enough, presumably I should see the entries marked up?
- Any clue as to why this e.g. Sell Ask is a limit and was not hit? Is there anything that we could see in a log?

Thanks

The first thing is to look at the Orders and Fills in the Trade Activity Log. You should see the Order for the Step Trailing Stop to move and then if there was an issue it should give you some idea of what that was. The pertinent information will be in the "OrderActionSource" column.

You can also look in your "Trade >> Trade Service Log" and see if there was some reason for a rejection.

We are a bit confused about the Sell Ask order your are referencing. Where does this come into play? It sounds like the main question is why the Step Trailing Stop was not moving. Additionally, you selected the Flatten button, so neither the Stop Loss or Take Profit orders would come into play. If we are misunderstanding something, then please give us the additional information.

The Orders shows the correct orders. The Status is cancelled presumably from being flattened. OrderActionSource Column has a CQG cancel ack message. The fills do not show anything from today. All points to an order being sent, never being filled (for some reason) and then being cancelled by me.

Trade Service Log does not show anything relevant other than an unable to flatten/reverse as the position does not exist. Other messages are MaxConnectionDifferenceDevices = 4 and connections =1 plus some file query time messages.

Sell Ask

On the attached orders I have the trailing step plus take profit bracket. There are Buy Mkt, Sell Mkt, Buy Ask, Sell Ask, Buy Bid & Sell Bid buttons on the form. I pressed the Sell Ask to create the bracket. Entering a Mkt order gives the worst price. So that is why I use Bid/Ask depending on if i want to go long or short.

Perhaps I should have used it the other way round and used Sell Bid not Sell Ask. Of course, sell ask gives a better price - if you can get it. Sell Bid is probably better than a market order. Not sure if that is something you would have a view on.

So you are not seeing any fills for the initial Sell Ask order you entered? If that did not fill, then that would explain why the Trailing Stop did not move, as the parent order had not filled.

That's correct. So the question is why did it not fill? Is it possible to find out when there are no error messages in the log.

This is not a question that we can answer. You need to locate the order in the Trade Activity Log and see if there were any issues with it:
