Hi, I would like to be able to view 1 chartbook for 1 market on my 2nd monitor and another chartbook for another market on my main monitor. Is there a way to do this??

The only way to have complete Chartbooks (with multiple charts) displayed on different monitors is to use Sub-Instances of Sierra Chart and put each instance in the desired monitor. Refer to the following: File Menu: New Instance (File) If you are just wanting individual Charts on different monitors, then you will just need to detach the charts from the main program to be able to move them. Refer to the following: Window, CB and CW Menus: Detach/Attach Window (Window) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Does running multiple instances add more processing load? I'm wondering if it would be better to just copy and past my Chart files to a 2nd download of Sierra rather than doing a 2nd instance. Which one would be better to save CPU? Thanks |

A second installation of Sierra Chart is going to be the same CPU-wise as a Second Instance (File >> New Instance). In both cases you have a completely independent Sierra Chart running. The only difference is with regards to data (in the New Instance situation the data is received from the main instance). Also, if you have multiple cores, then you can actually benefit from having multiple Sierra Chart instances. Ok great thank you. Is it possible to connect the 2nd instance to a different data or do they need to be on the same?

A 2nd instance (File >> New Instance) can only be connected to the same data as the Main Instance. If you need to connect to different data, then you would want to use a separate installation. One last thing I need to sort out here.... I'm trying to take drawings I put on my chartbook each morning and have them on this second instance so I can display them on my second monitor while still having the 1st instance on my main screen. I see that I can delete the 2nd instance each day and start over but that takes a long time for the data to reload when I do that. Another option is to copy and paste the chartbook files over in the data folder, but I remember that its not a good idea to do that while Sierra is running. I don't want to have to shut down Sierra and reopen b/c it takes time given the amount of workspaces I have. If however, I just close the one chartbook I want to copy but leave the rest open, would that be okay? Thanks |

You would have to copy the Chartbooks. As long as the one chartbook you are copying is not open in either instance, then you can copy it without any issue.

I wanted to add my question to this post rather than make a new one since I have a similar issue. I have 3 monitors. I want to use 2 chartbooks on 2 windows. When I hit detach window on my 2nd chartbook it plants in on my main screen and I am not able to grab it and move it to one of my other 2 monitors. I do understand the whole File-New instance deal but I would rather just be able to move this detached window to another screen rather than run a new instance. Why am I unable to move the detached window where I want? Rather than it just picking a monitor and being stuck there. Thanks! update: Okay I was finally able to move the detached window. Don't know why that was so difficult. However when I click over to the main SC screen and click on another chartbook the one I detached to another screen disappears. So is it just not possible to have 2 different chartbooks up on 2 screens without doing the new instance? Date Time Of Last Edit: 2022-03-30 15:49:11

The reason the detached window disappears is because it is part of the other chartbook. When you switch chartbooks, by default, only the charts associated with that chartbook will be displayed. But, you can change that behavior for individual detached charts by selecting the option Window >> Window Always Visible. This makes that chart window stay available regardless of what Chartbook is selected. It sounds like this is all you need for your setup.
