Questions about initial setup of data feeds/brokers

I'm a non-professional trader new to Sierra Chart (considering the free trial) and am interested in the data options. I don't completely understand how the feeds work. I am looking to get a standard equity feed and broker, which is not an issue, but I'm also interested in futures. Nothing crazy, just sort of a standard, entry-level package. It seems that interactive brokers offers all of this, but the extensive warnings of data not displaying correctly with this broker are scaring me off.

I'm also finding the Sierra Chart options a little confusing. Can I get the real time feeds mentioned above from Sierra? And to trade, would I just use an API from one of the listed brokers so the Sierra Chart, data, and broker are all integrated? I guess I would use the level 2 from the broker?

Ideally I think a broker that offers the data I am looking for as well as the ability to trade it would be the best solution. Is there a better option than IB?

Thanks for any help.

Is there a better option than IB?

Setting fire to your house and car, eating your own vomit and amputating one of your limbs without anaesthetic are all better options than IB.

For futures, AMP and Optimus are all good options for Sierra Chart. AMP will enable you to subscribe to data from Sierra Chart and trade using TT order routing. You will be paying a little more each month than if you take the broker-provided data feed (typically Rithmic or CQG) but you will be getting good data quality. AMP also have very low account minimums which may be attractive for you. Optimus work with multiple FCMs and have good technical support and service.

Thanks for the reply. None of those things sound very appealing. IB is out. I'll look into the others.

This is an interesting comment. We know we are critical about Interactive Brokers from a technical perspective, in relation to developing Integration to their systems, but this comes across as harsh. Certainly Interactive Brokers is a good choice, if you want to be able to trade many asset classes and keep your commission costs low. The basis of our criticism, is really just providing support when there are problems.

Based on your requirements what we recommend you use is the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed for US equities data:
Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed

There is not going to be any requirement for having a trading account.

So in this case you will just be using Sierra Chart with this data feed and there is nothing more you need to do.

It will also provide futures data, but that will require a trading account to save on exchange fee costs. If you want to trade only futures from Sierra Chart, then might be better that you work with a different broker than Interactive Brokers.

For an understanding of why a futures account is needed, refer to:

In addition to the above:

Just so you are aware, you can use a Sierra Chart Data Feed in combination with any of the supported trading services. Refer to the list and information here:

The particular connection to a trading provider varies, but the instructions for how to connect can all be found in this section of the documentation:
