The information below is now no longer accurate. Refer to the post at the bottom of this page.

Old information:
We put out an announcement, that said TD Ameritrade support is going to end December 31, 2019 due to technical changes by TD Ameritrade.

What we are going to do is support the new technical method of logon for TD Ameritrade which will extend support until June 2020 and subsequent to that, connections to TD Ameritrade will be allowed for the purpose of verifying you have a funded trading account with them to meet CME requirements.

So Sierra Chart will be able to connect to TD Ameritrade, but there will be no access to any market data or trading functionality through TD Ameritrade because TD Ameritrade is discontinuing their old API which Sierra Chart uses. But Sierra Chart will still support logging in using their new login method.

After June 2020, there will be no access to any market data or trading functionality through TD Ameritrade.

Very disappointing news. For what I do TD Ameritrade / Think or Swim and Sierra with real time data feed for futures is the best combination for the price.

I am very happy with Think or Swim platform especially for options. The only thing lacking is accurate tick data for futures and some chart studies (volume/tpo profiles). Sierra fills the gap at a reasonable price.

So to continue like I am, then I will have to pay the more expensive data fee or change brokers that you support (and that can do what TD Ameritrade/TOS can do) or find another charting service that has accurate tick data at a reasonable price.

If there is another way to keep my data at the reduced fee please let me know.

You will always be able to use Sierra Chart with the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed / Denali Exchange Data Feed and verify you have a trading account through TD Ameritrade, since Sierra Chart will still support a connection to Ameritrade, to take advantage of the CME nonprofessional exchange fees.

I currently use TD Ameritrade solely for charting stocks and ETFs. Does this mean access to stocks and ETFs data through TD Ameritrade will also be discontinued?

If so, then I would need to use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed and pay for the the US Equities exchange?

So this is just for logon purposes to utilize one's TDA account to get beneficial CME fees.

But, (please confirm) there is no order routing through TDA.

If that's correct, then one would "still" need to have a brokerage account to fit other SC conditions (e.g., at a TradingTechnologies partner broker such as AMP).

Is it correct that those with funded accounts will continue to be able to get market data in SC from Ameritrade AFTER june 30?
[2019-11-22 15:15:09]
Sierra Chart Engineering - Posts: 104368
No that is not correct at all.

No data from Ameritrade after June 2020.

We also have to see if we can get the new logon method to work with Ameritrade. Otherwise, TD Ameritrade fully comes to an end January 2020. We will let you know in a couple of days.

Updated announcement about TD Ameritrade support.

TD Ameritrade is requiring a new API to continue to use their service. This new API has a new login method.

We have reviewed the login method at this time and we have determined it is completely incompatible with a desktop trading program like Sierra Chart. It uses a web browser based method of authentication which also requires a secondary verification through a mobile phone. This is just wholly incompatible with Sierra Chart.

Therefore, since TD Ameritrade is ending support for their old API that Sierra Chart uses on December 31, 2019, access to TD Ameritrade services from within Sierra Chart ends on December 31, 2019.

If you are using TD Ameritrade to authorize real time CME data that you are receiving from either the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed or the new Denali Exchange Data Feed, we can still authorize that data through a manual statement method. You will need to provide your TD Ameritrade statement. We will provide more details on this over the next couple of days and this method of authorization will require the use of the lower cost Denali Exchange Data Feed.

Now there are some other alternatives:

1. You could use other supported trading services like Interactive Brokers:
Interactive Brokers Trading Service

Or for futures trading you could use AMP and our TT based order routing:
Sierra Chart / Trading Technologies Futures Order Routing Service

This is supported by other brokers as well as AMP.

2. Use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed for US equities data:
Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed

----
And for the record whoever at Ameritrade or whatever people at Ameritrade came up with the ridiculously complicated API, that they did, is really just simply plain dumb. Essentially there is no API usable in a commercial setting. The API is so difficult to access and support to the point of extreme impracticality.

As we review this again this is nothing more than point blank insane the new authentication method required by TD Ameritrade. Many of you users struggle to do the simplest of things and this whole new TD Ameritrade authentication process is so darn complicated, that all you would be doing be complaining to us, about how hard it is and why it does not work sometimes, if at all, and why it is so complicated and blaming that on us. It will also create an excessive support burden on us. This is nuts. TD Ameritrade is history. It is complete history and we will have nothing to do with this at all.

We are pulling support for Ameritrade mid-December in newer versions of Sierra Chart.

After further review of the TD Ameritrade new logon method, based on what we see it is just not even usable for commercial purposes. Why they do not even follow the established standard where a user would generate an application-specific key and secret and set permissions on that key and then just use in any application and not even disclose their username or password, we do not know.

What they should do is in their Think or Swim program, they should have expose a DTC protocol API server that Sierra Chart could just connect into and does not require any authentication. This is just like the model that Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation uses, of course they are not using the DTC protocol though. Now if no one wants to take our advice to do things properly, it is their loss. Not ours.

Still learning the data setup process, I was ready to setup my account until i came across this. In my situation I have a funded trading account with TD ameritrade trading futures. My goal is to

get live access to futures data on sierra to look at TPO profiles, order flow, etc. From reading previous forums I was under the impression that to do so I would need to purchase the $36 a month

for advanced plus $25 a month for real time data plus the CME exchange discount fee in order to achieve real time data. Will that no loner be available when sierra does away with TD ameritrade

services ? My goal is still the same get access to live futures trading on sierra but i was trying to take advantage of the CME discount exchange fee by having a funded account with TD ameritrade.

From my understanding it seems like this will no longer be available ? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, Thank you for your time.

There are two possibilities. You can use the new delayed data feed:
Delayed Exchange Data Feed

We recommend getting started with this now.

Or you can use the Denali exchange data feed:
Denali Exchange Data Feed

And we expect next week to have a facility for you to upload a TD Ameritrade account statement to show that you have a funded account. This does have more administrative burden and we don't know how well it is going to work and cannot always guarantee it will be available. And we may have to see some evidence of actual futures trades and not just an account.

Hi, I have an account with TD ameritrade and have been using this for access to US stock charts and market stats such as the ADR-SP, ADR-Nasdaq, etc. If I use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed for US equities data option, will I be able to access these market stats? Thank you.

The market statistics are included with all Sierra Chart service packages.

If you require real-time data for US equities you would need to use the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed.

We mentioned we would be providing information about an alternative way if you have a TD Ameritrade account to verify you have a funded trading account to meet CME group requirements to access market data at the nonprofessional exchange fees when using our new Denali Exchange Data Feed.

We have a new facility available that it will be accessible through your Sierra Chart account control panel to upload a TD Ameritrade statement which we can use to confirm you have a trading account . You will need to do this once every two or three months.

Update: We will be providing a link for the described facility here. And we will also ensure that if the process is not done by January 1 that if you are using the Denali Exchange Data Feed we can authorize you for the real-time data for a few days to allow the process to be completed.

Update: We are working out a procedure to ensure users who are using either the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed, or the Denali Exchange Data Feed, to be able to access the CME data January 1 without interruption if you have a TD Ameritrade account. We will follow up with you through a system notification message.

Users who are using the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed will need to start to use the Denali Exchange Data Feed for CME data and we have a plan we are developing for those users.

We do not know how much longer it will last, but we can see the old TD Ameritrade API is still accessible even now that we are January 1, 2020 contrary to what TD Ameritrade said.

Announcement: The TD Ameritrade service is still up and running. We do not know when they are going to disconnect it. Newer versions do not have TD Ameritrade support because we thought it was going to be withdrawn by TD Ameritrade January 1, 2020 as they said.

However, if you run a version earlier than 2027, then you will still have TD Ameritrade support.

In regards to us mentioning about providing a TD Ameritrade statement monthly to authorize the CME data, we have abandoned that method of verification because it is administratively too burdensome for us.

Instead we have this new method:
Easy Solution to CME Funded Trading Account Requirement

However at this time if you use a version earlier than 2027, you can still use TD Ameritrade.
