This is the relevant error:
Error connecting socket. Windows error code 10013: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. | 2013-11-08 09:31:32

Try restarting your computer.

This may also be caused by a firewall. Refer to help topic 1.2 here:

Are you running any firewall software on the computer other than the Windows firewall?

Try starting Sierra Chart with administrator level access:

I have Norton 360, but I'm not sure if that has it's own firewall. In any case, it's never been a problem before this. I'll now try starting Sierra Chart with administrator access. Give me a few minutes.

This is a problem on your side. There has been nothing changed in Sierra Chart which would cause this. And actually as we think about it, we cannot recall anyone ever getting this error before. The error comes from the Windows operating system.

There is not a specific answer we can give you to solve this. We have to think about this. We strongly suspect though it is due to security software on your system. Are you logged into Windows using an administrator account? Make sure that is the case.

I am the only one that uses this computer, and I have always been the administrator on this computer. And, again, I have never had a problem running Sierra Charts before this latest software upgrade.

I hope that you guys will think about it.

Best

One thing we took note of is that you mentioned Norton. Norton is very well known to be a very troublesome security software. We recommend completely uninstalling it from your system. Most likely that is the problem. Disabling will not help. You will have to uninstall it. We have a lot experience with programs like Norton and they are a lot of trouble. It does not matter whether you have not had a problem previously with it. There is a good possibility it is the source of the problem.

What we first recommend you do is restart your computer into safe mode with networking support and to see if you can connect. If so, then Norton is most likely the problem.

Ok. Assuming that works, what security software do you recommend?

A hardware firewall like a router, the Windows firewall, and Microsoft Security essentials, and being careful.

We did some more checking on this, and we do not see how this is an issue within Sierra Chart. Also, we could not find any reference to that error code in this support board or our old one. This seems to be the first time this has ever been reported.

I would highly recommend Avast antivirus. I've been using it for years. It's free, and so much better than Norton. I've run Sierra Chart on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 and haven't experienced any compatibility problems with Avast.

Thanks for your input on Avast. I have heard if it once before. Much appreciated.
