Hi support,

I am using 2 Sierrachart instances. One through TransAct and a second one in order to have your realtime Forex and CFD feed (SC Data - All Services). I have always been using the method of referencing remote chart data files in order to overlay chart symbols in and from both instances. This has always worked fine for me.

I just bought a new computer and have been trying to setup everything like it was before only that now I am unable to choose between the two instances when selecting symbols. The 'Instance:' dropdown menu in 'Find Symbol' is greyed out and I can no longer use symbols from for example the SC-Data feed instance in the TransAct instance. Upon searching the forums and the documentation pages I found out that the above method of referencing remote chart data files is no longer supported and that one should dig his teeth into using DTC.

So far so good, I enabled 'DTC Protocol Server' in the TransAct instance and set the 'Data/Trade Service' of my Sierrachart instance to 'DTC-Sub Instance' with the proper IP (local only) and ports. Log says all is fine and indeed I am able to use all the futures symbols realtime in the Sierrachart instance.

However, I am now unable to use any of the CFD or Forex symbols. I get 'Symbol unknown' for everything and while historical data gets downloaded there is no realtime updating as it querying TransAct for that data. I mean, I login to that instance using my Sierrachart credentials so shouldn't I be able to use the realtime Forex and CFD feed. What am I missing ? Or is this simply not possible using DTC ? And if that's the case, could you help me getting the old method to work again ?

I sent the message log via the 'Send for Analysis' button just now.

Your help is appreciated, thanks.

This section here explains what to do about the Instance setting not listing any other instances:

However, there is a much better way to do this. Since you have your own Sierra Chart account, use a single copy of Sierra Chart for TransAct and the Forex and CFD data. Set it to use TransAct:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/TransAct.php#SetupInstructions

You can also access the Forex and CFD symbols directly through the File >> Find Symbol window.

Even with what you describe above, you should be able to access the Forex and CFD data with what you have done. If not, the first thing is to update the Symbol Settings as explained here:

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

I can confirm Instances listing now working properly again after launching the charts with admin privileges.

Tried your point 2 suggestion to use a single copy of SC for TransAct and Forex/CFD and that's working great, going to use this method from now on out, thanks very much.

Finally, I did also test point 3 and updating the symbol settings as per instructions did not fix it, all forex and cfd symbol still come up as 'unknown' , but since from here on out I'll be using the above single copy of SC suggestion I no longer need a fix for this.

Thanks very much.

OK. Actually we realize now why this happens and there really is not a solution to it with the particular configuration you were using because the main server instance of Sierra Chart is one provided through Transact.
