Hi SC, I have a large number of charts open ~240 in my platform.
SC works fine but it there is noticeable lag - but I do have a large number of custom studies form my developer.

Currently using Toshiba gaming laptop - quad core i7, 32 RAM, SSD, Nvidia GTX 770M (3GB video)

I will get a dell gaming desktop. ten core i7, 64 GB RAM. the video card nvidia 1080 (8GB video). Question is whether I should pay extra to get 2 video cards instead of one? I dont play games at all and I wonder if I need this. Also, for the purposes of SC, the standard machine comes with 6 core i7. will I notice any difference with the 10 core i7?

thanks

An extra video card will not make things faster.

Regarding CPUs a higher clocked 6 core will be better than a slower 10 core.

You will be getting better results with faster storage.

Also look into optimizing the studies used. See which ones take the longest to calculate:

You should really run multiple instances of Sierra Chart. Refer to:

We do think overall more cores would be better.

many thanks.

all my studies read 0ms except for one study which reads 1ms

I think it is the large number of charts. Especially after the computer has been on for a while. I run no other applications. There is no Skype etc or any other application on the machine except for the kaspersky antivirus.

There are 3 candidate gaming models; which setup do you think will remove this lag on switching between charts and changing time frames:
1. Intel® Core™ i7-6850K Processor (6-cores, 15MB Cache, TurboBoost Max 3.0, Overclocked up to 4.0 GHz) 64GB (4X16GB) DDR4 2133MHz SDRAM Memory
2. Intel® Core™ i7-6950X Processor(10 cores, 25MB Cache, TurboBoost Max 3.0, Overclocked up to 3.8 GHz) 64GB (4X16GB) DDR4 2133MHz SDRAM Memory

The first 2 candidates are in one series.

But then candidate 3 is in another gaming series:

3. Intel® Core™ i7-7700K Processor (4-Cores, 8MB Cache, Turbo Boost 2.0, Overclocked up to 4.4GHz) 32GB HyperX™ FURY DDR4 XMP at 2667MHz

So the last system has 4 cores - but faster than candidates 1 and 2. It also has less RAM but it is faster RAM 2667MHz.
The trade-offs are between the cores and the speed. I will purchase whichever system you tell me will run Sierra the best.

Many thanks.

Oh I wasnt aware of the feature of another instance. I just tried it and it is compatible with my setup.

So with the chart books would you recommend that I just simply split my chartbooks in 2 and open half in each instance? I only have 9 chart books and 25 markets - it is all the time frames - each market ~12 time frames so a chart for each time frame. That is where the large number of charts comes in.

Something like this will be fine. You definitely want to distribute Chartbooks among multiple instances of Sierra Chart.
