Good to hear! This will all get much better once the new Rithmic connection is up and running.

As to a Linux version of Sierra, I'll be overjoyed if it comes but I'm not actually holding my breath. Are you?

So do I, sir.
But in other hand still really hate all of these WiIntel's crap.
Just feel tired to look at that mess.
And I'm totally sure we need the one good distro to follow with.

System has been running straight for a month with 1 SC CPU lock issue after a kernel update to 5.8.0-49. Rebooted after the lock and all was well. The kernel was updated again shortly after to 5.8.0.50 and have not had any CPU lock issues.

Possibly we will see Wayland in the next major release of Mint... will be interesting!

Also, patiently waiting for the Rithmic update so the DTC Bridge server would not be needed any longer.

Configuration:
SierraChart Version 2247 64 bit (2 instances)
wine-6.6 Development
Mint Linux 20.1/Cinnamon desktop
Kernel 5.8.0-50 generic
OpenGL X11lib: 1.7.0
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
GeForce GTX 1660 Nvidia video card driver 460.67
Dual Monitors
Updated 4/16/21.
PS: All still WAY better than Windows... Lockups and slow downs more times that I can remember in the last month on Windows.

Tracked the lockup issue to Nvidia. After each Nvidia update, Nvidia resets persistenced to default settings. Now after each Nvidia update, I go in and set back to what is shown in the link below. Zero lockups.

Also, after updating to SC 2261+, I'm seeing good memory usage (<525 Meg) per instance and 3-4% CPU utilization. I'm adding memory and CPU metrics to the configuration status below as a check. With this faster CPU, it is easy for me to miss SC version to version performance changes. Best performance I've seen!

Current configuration:
SierraChart Version 2268 64 bit (2 instances)
wine-6.10 Development
Mint Linux 20.1/Cinnamon desktop
Kernel 5.8.0-55 generic
OpenGL X11lib: 1.7.0
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
GeForce GTX 1660 Nvidia video card driver 460.80
Dual Monitors
Memory usage: <525 Meg per instance
CPU Utilization: <5% per instance
Updated 6/5/21.

CPU Utilization: <4% per instance
this means ~70% using one core

1. use top.
2. add % for wine.
3. set crosshair to on and move it. compare to win10.
4. scroll chart. compare to win10.

enjoy.

Winserver is 2%. 3% SC instance 1, 3% SC instance 2. Total 8%. So many fewer issues than windows and yes I am enjoying not fixing Windows all the time!

3% SC instance

are there any sshots for this?

Here you go...screenshot of Linux system monitor. Aggregate % can fluctuates a percentage up or down or so. Everything else shows around 0% usually.

To be fair, my Windows 10 i7 test computer has been more stable than prior Windows updates the last 3 months or so. The usual break/fix/break/fix Microsoft cycle. (yes, Windows is test, Linux is production because SC likes to only talk Windows if you have to talk with them about any issues.)

Sure..here you go... Same results. Took a few screenshots as I moved and scrolled around on both monitors. It never moved above 4% for each. This does take into account all the CPU cores.

If you take only 1 CPU core and compare (top default), here are the results. This system has 8 physical cores and 16 threads so you have to take that into account. Top does this in either Irix or Solaris mode. Irix (single core but you have to manually take into account # of CPUs and threads) or Solaris mode where top does it for you. You can toggle between the two modes with "shift i" while top is running.

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/man1/top.1.html

This is explained in the "3. FIELDS / Columns" section of the manpages in "1. %CPU -- CPU Usage"

yes. 50+% looks real.

you will get 10-15% on Win10 by design.

This system has 8 physical cores and 16 threads so you have to take that into account.
but wine can't do it and uses only one core

also win 7/10 uses GPU a lot efficient in this case

so you just spend HW power for nothing here heating the universe.

Please refer to the link below...Wine is expanding more and more to Win64 (PE) as you can see in the releases. Multi-threading has been supported for awhile now.

It is true, windows is best for those not looking for alternatives and will always want to stay with the mainstream. However, if they are looking to get away from the OS monopoly, this is a good option IMO.

Also, my system temp is 41 C. Cooler than my prior setup. Yes, GPU support on Linux needs improving and progress has been rapidly made over the last year.

all of your words is just empty

- gpu is not used as it should be
- no multicore support
- linux is under control NSA/IBM/INTEL/HP and so on
- SC works on linux for inefficinent way
- linux gui has a ton of bugs
- hw is not supported as it should be
- CPU usage is tripple to win 7/10

there are no any logical reason to use SC on reversed and inefficient env

This thread has shown all of the logical reasons to consider (performance, stability, security, support, HW support) as a great choice with up-to-date, real-world information and experience so anyone can make their own educated decisions as to what works best for them :) Yes, of course there have been challenges along the way but that is to be expected.

without wanting to be offending or anything but you are missing the point.

Its not about under which operating system SC performs better, its about how SC can perform better under Linux.

Anyone interested running SC under Linux or even MacOS is because they already using this operating system, or want to use it, obviously any compromise in performance is something each individual treats differently, but the first step is for anyone to decide why they want to use a different operating system in the first place.
