If you take only 1 CPU core and compare (top default), here are the results. This system has 8 physical cores and 16 threads so you have to take that into account. Top does this in either Irix or Solaris mode. Irix (single core but you have to manually take into account # of CPUs and threads) or Solaris mode where top does it for you. You can toggle between the two modes with "shift i" while top is running. http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/man1/top.1.html This is explained in the "3.
