Hi John,
A client and I are stumped. He has SC obvs and he sent me a formula for an NQ - ES spread he trades so that I can have a chart on my pc. Unlike me, he codes, programs and is everything I am not. He Team-viewed into my PC to check everything was exactly as he had, and we still cannot get the chart to generate. We have used both NQH25-CME, and NQH25_FUT_CME in the formula. The former works perfectly on his PC.

When we go to generate the chart, trying both formulas, we get the red error message as seen in attachment. We tried the 'translate to current symbol', and that too generates the same red error message. Mike, again, has jumped on my PC to confirm there wasn't an error on my part. Please can you help us to solve this issue? I appreciate your time looking at this, and hope you can give us a fix. thank you so much, John, for your time. Karen

ps there wasn't room for symbol sett 2, but it's just showing the same thing as symbol set 1, but with the different symbol.

The first thing is that when you are setting up a Custom Calculated Symbol, you need to use the symbol names as they exist for that instance of Sierra Chart. So if you are connected to the "Teton CME Routing" then you would use "NQH25_FUT_CME". If you are connected to "SC Data" then it would be "NQH25_CME". But if you are connected to a different service, you would need to use the symbols as they are for that service.

What is your "Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Main Settings >> Current Selected Service" set to in the instance where you are setting up these symbols?

John, I wrote a reply back but as I am checking it is not here. So I am going to write the reply again. If you did receive the first I apologise. Weird

Anyway, we are both on SC data all service', see attached. What is very odd is that you state 'If you are connects to SC DATA then the symbol would be NQH_CME. Mike uses a HYPHEN NOT an underscore as you state for his SC Data service! Either way we have tried using both hyphens and underscores and neither works. Please look at how each is set up exactly as Mike has it in his SC and running spreads perfectly, but neither hyphens nor underscores work.

Thank you for taking time and helping us solve this.

Sorry - it would be a hyphen, so it would be "NQH25-CME".

The other thing is to ensure you have everything setup properly for that symbol. Follow the instructions at the following link:
Custom Calculated Symbols: Instructions

If the above does not solve, it then start with a simpler formula, avoid the very long decimal numbers and see if it works. If so, then expand the formula out further. If it does not work with a simpler formula, then most likely it is related to the setup we referenced above.

but John, the thing is the formula works for Mike, your client as well obvs, so why doesn't the formula work for me? We both have SC data, so something is stopping it from working for me when it works for him.

John,
For further info for you, here is a screenshot of the spread chart working happily away on Mike's SC data. So what could be going wrong on my end?
1- we both have SC data feed
2- formula works perfectly on his SC
3- we copy the formula exactly into mine
4- he has teamviewered into my acct to make sure every setting is as his is.

my chart comes up with large red failure box as shown in the first message to you.

Please, can you help us solve this? I so appreciate your time. Karen

For one thing, your Symbol Settings do not have the option for "Uses Formula Operators" set to "Yes". This needs to be set to "Yes".

Also, other items that are changed should not be. Only change the following items, and even then, only if you need/want to. The only important item is "Uses Formula Operators":
- Price Format
- Tick Size
- Currency Value Per Tick
- Category
- Uses Formula Operators
- Download Historical Data for Formula Symbols
