Hi, I'm new to Sierra Chart and I've two questions: 1) I've added a 20 day VbP study on an continuous intraday RTH MES chart with the following settings: Chart settings -------------- Continuous Contract - Date-Rule Rollover backadjusted Chart Data Type - Intraday Chart only Days to load for Intraday Chart Data Type - 100 Session Start Time - 9:30:00 Session Stop Time - 16:59:59 Use Evening Session - no VbP --- Ticks per Volume Bar - 1 Volume Graph Time period Type - One Period at End of Fixed Time Length - Auto-Skip Empty Days Time Period Type for Fixed Time - Days Time Period Length for Fixed Time - 20 Extend Point Of Control - End of Period When I look now at the extended (End of Period) VPOC line the line covers 21 days instead of the 20 days I would have expected(1-2 to 1-31). Why? And when I change the Bar Period from 15min to 1 Day the VPOC line covers suddenly only 15 days and the 20 day VPOC value jumps from 6065 to 6127.50. Why? https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1738429578446.png https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1738429367212.png 2) On every of my intraday charts Days to load for Intraday Chart Data Type is set to 10. When I change this value to 100 and I click OK Sierra loads 100 days of data. No problem. But the next time I open the chart settings the value switched back from 100 to 10. The problem is when I'm changing any other value in the chart settings and I forget to set the number of days it loads 10 days again instead of the number of days I've originally set. Is that normal? Why does it not save the number of days to load? Thanks for any help! |

After downloading version 2736 question 2 seems to be fixed because the value under Days to load for Intraday Chart Data Type will now be saved. I was on 2735 before. But now I can only display 8 days of intraday data. Although 200 days of MES intraday data were requested bars are only displayed until 1-22. https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1738443121604.png Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-02-02 17:41:27

Hi John, my account is now active. But I've massive problems now after switching from the trial(SC Data) to Teton. It's really frustrating because with the demo everything was fine. Eg. when I now open a new symbol like ESH25_FUT_CME and I want 60 days back only 14 days will be downloaded. Even when I use the option delete all data and download. After the download was ready I increased to 100 days but Sierra loades the data only starting at 1-15. Also when I load the VIX_CGI for a 30 day 1min intraday chart the first bar starts at 1-27 instead of 30 days back 2025-02-04 15:44:42.633 | Unset | Trade activity files set size: 43 2025-02-04 15:44:42.694 | Unset | Reading Internal Order ID file. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.696 | Unset | Reading Trade Orders file. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.696 | Unset | Reading Trade Positions file. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.696 | Unset | Reading Trade Account Data files. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Software version: 2736 64-bit 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Primary Thread ID: 13208 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Usage end date: 2025-08-09 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Enabled for: Advanced Features 2. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Enabled for: Sierra Chart Historical Data Service. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Enabled for: Denali Real-Time Exchange Data Feed. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Enabled for: Delayed Denali Exchange Data Feed. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Enabled for exchange2: CME 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Enabled for exchange2: CBOE Global Indexes 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Allow Support for Sierra Chart Data Feeds is enabled. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Current selected Data/Trading service: Teton CME Routing 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Custom symbol settings values: enabled 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Chart Update Interval: 400 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Intraday Data Storage Time Unit: 0 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Time Zone: -05:00:00 (EST-05EDT+01,M3.2.0/02:00,M11.1.0/02:00) 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | 2025-02-04 20:44:42 Local computer time in UTC 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | 2025-02-04 15:44:42 Local computer time in SC Time Zone 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | 2025-02-04 20:44:43 Server time in UTC 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Local computer UTC time and Server UTC time difference: 1 seconds. 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Program path: D:\SierraChart\ 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Data Files path: D:\SierraChart\Data\ 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | OS Version Number: 10.0 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Locale Setting: C 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | DLLs: UserContributedStudies_64.dll 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Allowed protected custom studies: 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | System | Crash reporter started: true 2025-02-04 15:44:42.698 | Unset | 2025-02-04 15:44:42.718 | Symbol Settings | Checking for new symbol settings. Now after the close the download rate is much faster ~1,2MBit. Deleted all data of ESH25_FUT_CME again but it still downloads the intraday data only until 1-15. The Date range in file is also 2025-01-15

We see the following lines in your log: 2025-02-04 15:45:37.091 | Historical Data | HD Request # 1 | Requesting Intraday data. Start date-time: 2025-01-15 15:45:36. Record interval: 0. Symbol: VIX_CGI 2025-02-04 15:45:38.056 | Historical Data | HD Request # 1 | Received 42221 Intraday data records from 2025-01-15 15:45:46.320000 to 2025-02-04 15:45:31.328000 (20.0 days. Delay: 6.7 seconds) and wrote 42221 records for VIX_CGI So for VIX_CGI, the system is only trying to load data starting at January 15, 2025. To download additional Intraday data for VIX_CGI, refer to the following: Historical Intraday Data (Missing Data / Download Errors / Viewing More Data): Downloading/Viewing More Historical Intraday Data For futures products (such as ESH25_FUT_CME) make sure you are using a Continuous Futures Contract chart. Refer to the following: Continuous Futures Contract Charts Then, if you have an issue getting data further back by increasing the "Days to Load" then refer to the same link above for how to download additional intraday data. -- We can not say anything about the download speed. We have very good upload connections at our data centers, so it is definitely not related to that. But there are all kinds of things that can happen when you are dealing with the public Internet. The first thing to do is work on getting the data back to where you are wanting. Then, once you have the bulk of the data downloaded, see how the downloads work for you going forward, as they are going to be much smaller. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Thx John, it seems these problems have been the result of the large initial amount of data which was necessary to download. Today everything looks good! Concerning my initial question "Extended VPOC line longer/shorter than expected" problem. I changed the configuration of the profile from Volume Graph Time period Type - One Period at End of Fixed Time Length - Auto-Skip Empty Days Time Period Type for Fixed Time - Days Time Period Length for Fixed Time - 20 to Volume Graph Time period Type - One Period Based on Barcount Number of Bars On Bar Count- 20 which fixed this problem. So in which case would I use the option One Period at End of Fixed Time Length - Auto-Skip Empty Days? It seems Ticinotrader had a similar problem with this option but there was now answer: Problem with VbP - One Period at End of Fixed Time Length - Auto-Skip Empty Days | Post: 383537 Which one would be the right option for a 20 day VP on an intraday chart? If these are daily bars, then you should not see a difference in the profiles. We just looked at the situation that TicinoTrader was referencing and we do not see a difference in the profiles when using "One Period at End of Fixed time Length - Auto-Skip Empty Days" with and without a TPO study. The same should be true for what you are seeing as long as they are covering the same time period. Also, with regards to your original post, it looks like you were comparing Intraday data to Daily Historical data, which will give a very different volume profile as these are very different data. No I used "Intraday Chart only". I assume that means also daily bars are built based on intraday and not historical data. Because I switched all symbols to Teton I send you two new screenshots of MESH25_FUT_CME. Both charts are using: Data Type: Intraday Chart only only RTH data 9:30:00 - 16:59:59 Volume Graph Time period Type - One Period at End of Fixed Time Length - Auto-Skip Empty Days Time Period Type for Fixed Time - Days Time Period Length for Fixed Time - 20 Extend POC - End Of Period I would expect that this VPOC line covers 20 days of data when using a fixed time period of 20 days regardless if I use a 15 min/30min/60min or daily bars The screenshots are from the same chart. But in the 30min chart the extended VPOC line covers 21 days instead of 20. When I click on the "Daily" button in the control bar the VPOC line covers suddenly only 15 days. Why? https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1738869683683.png https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=173886770948.png Sorry for my questions but I'm new to Sierra and the learning curve is very steep. But when you finally understand how it works it's a very very powerful piece of software! Currently I'm testing only in Sim but yesterday I tried to place orders on Teton in the last 10 seconds before the close and there were absolutely no delays. In Tradestation I saw sometimes delays up to 30 seconds for an order confirmation at this time(or in fast markets). It seems you did a very good job ;-) |

This is the relevant Input: Volume By Price Study: Minimum Time Period % for Reference Days Back Look at this chart: https://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1739249000683.png It does actually cover 20 days according to the settings. The shorter holiday day is skipped over. We do see a shorter number of days, for the time span even though it is set to 20 days, when the chart bars are set to 1 Day using Intraday data. We are going to be looking at that. Give us one or two days for this. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Installed 2740 and the problem with the shorter number of days in a daily intraday chart is now fixed. Thanks John! But it seems this version has a new bug: when you right click the mouse in a chart and select "Study settings" you see all the defined studies. But when you select one of them to open the settings they do not open. The only way to to work with your studies is to right click the mouse and select "Studies". Can you reproduce this behaviour? |

We are not able to reproduce this. When we select a particular study from the sub-menu under "Study Settings" we get the settings for that study. We tried this in both the main region and a separate regions (regions 1 and 2). Please get us the chartbook that shows this issue and we will see if we can reproduce it with your chartbook.
