User contribution:

We are pleased to introduce Sierra++, a new tool designed specifically to extend usability and ergonomics of Sierra Chart for both beginners and long-time users, by providing handy tools like pickers and templates to help setup and adjust charts and studies quickly.

We have been working with the author and adding various functionality to ACSIL related to this and there is more to come in the coming weeks and months.

The first release includes pickers for adjusting chart Graphics Settings and study Subgraphs, and quickly copying these settings to others charts and studies.

Hello Sierra Chart users,

First I would like to thank the Sierra Chart team for spending time expanding ACSIL.

Sierra++ is (the beginning of) the tool I wish I had when I started using Sierra Chart. It's not a trading tool, it's about saving time when working with Sierra Chart : https://sierra-pp.com

The first release is out, featuring color and Graphics pickers (with a Color Palette dedicated to trading charts), and Bar Period favorites. I hope you'll enjoy using it.

There is a 2-week free trial, just send me your SC Username at sierraplusplus@gmail.com so that I can activate your access. If you're interested but you don't want to share your SC Username, please also let me know by email.

If you've sent an email and have not received any answer even in your spam folder, please contact me here by Direct Message.

We are just adding functionality as requested if it is within reason and not too difficult.

Please continue to update the release notes and/or Support Forum when you do this. I don't know how to use what I don't know exists.

Just a little reminder, the introductory offer will expire in 24 hours. It's a good opportunity to receive up to 3 extra free months and benefit from new features during the period. https://sierra-pp.com/launch-offer/

I also want to thank you for your enthusiastic messages, and, of course, a big thank you to the first customers for their trust and support.

More features coming soon, stay tuned.

After some of your messages asking for a one-time fee pricing model, I tried to make it work with Sierra++ which is a single, constantly evolving product. The missing piece of the puzzle was to break down the features and sell them separately with, say, one year of technical updates included. So I'm pleased to inform you that it will soon be possible !

The current all-included offer will remain the main one.

When this new pricing model is released, existing customers will have the choice to stay in the current pricing model or to switch and convert their purchase into the new one at the expiration of their current license.

PS : a Black Friday offer will start within the next 36 hours, check https://twitter.com/sierra_plusplus

A new version of Sierra++ is available.

Refer to this page for a comprehensive list of new features : https://sierra-pp.com/faq/whatsnew

To update Sierra++ :
- Make sure your Sierra Chart version is 2567 or higher (it will NOT work otherwise)
- Delete Sierra++.exe from Sierra Chart Data Folder
- Restart Sierra Chart

This version is very close to the final set of features of Sierra++ first module named 'Graphics', which will optionally be available with a one-time fee in the coming days.

I've already started to work on the next module, which allows to set study inputs in one-click. Quite exciting to use ! It will be released in the coming weeks to customers with a full access license.

Following recent news, the first one-time fee module is available for purchase : https://sierra-pp.com/pricing

No change to the existing all-included "Full Access" offer, and no change for existing customers. I will send them an email in the coming days to provide more information about this.

There is also a minor update online, release 13 : https://sierra-pp.com/faq/whatsnew . It is available with one-click instant update from within version 12. You can also use the old manual way to update :
- Delete Sierra++.exe from Sierra Chart Data Folder
- Restart Sierra Chart

The Major Release 15 is available, with the new Studies module : https://sierra-pp.com/faq/whatsnew

This exciting release brings the ability to quickly adjust any study input, with dedicated views for 'huge' studies like Volume By Price, TPO, Numbers Bars... I'll add other views in the coming days and weeks.

This is a full update, which means that it is mandatory to update both the Sierra++ study and the Sierra++ application.

I hope you'll enjoy using it as much as I do ! I've had a particularly great time developing those new features because I've learned a lot from the amazing power of Sierra Chart.

Couple of quick questions:
1) Since this is a sticky thread, does this equate to "certified by Sierra Chart Engineering" as a safe 3rd party product to use.
2) Reading the "What will Sierra++ never do ?" section on your website, It would be nice to include
2.1) your product will NOT have access to any of the custom studies and collections stored locally within the SC Platform?
2.2) A link to robust privacy policy statement in regards to tracking/monitoring/uploading details of logs etc to your website and what levels of details are captured, stored from a user's machine onto your application and website
2.3)
A small, portable Windows application (.exe) with no external dependency
- Is this statement audited by an independent 3rd party auditor or certified by SC Engineering?

Seems like a good tool but I am always anxious about installing 3rd party apps on my local drive without access to source code or certifications from well-known governing authorities. Just a sticky thread is not enough imo.

I understand your anxiety, I'm like you with other products. That's why I try to be as clear as possible on the Sierra++ website about my approach.

1) This is a question for the Sierra Chart team. What I can say is that I don't think one should conclude that "Sticky Thread" = "Certified by Sierra Chart Engineering". Even if I've shared many technical details with them, Sierra Chart team has not certified Sierra++. They didn't ask for this, I didn't offer them to do it, and I suppose they have no time at all for this. Sierra++ is an independent project, I'm not part of the Sierra Chart team. I have mentioned the history of the project on Sierra++ website : https://sierra-pp.com/faq/about/

2.1) Sierra++ goal is to ease the use of Sierra Chart, so it does access custom studies Subgraphs and Inputs, exactly like any built-in study : through the Sierra Chart API. Could you please clarify what you mean by "access to custom studies stored locally" ?

2.2) There is a "Privacy" page on the Sierra++ website since the very first day : https://sierra-pp.com/faq/privacy/.

2.3) There hasn't been any 3rd party audit. The cost would be too high, considering Sierra++ will never become a big business. If someone wants to pay a well-known independant 3rd party auditor then I'll be ok to let them see the source code (if the auditor is serious, with serious non-disclosure agreements etc).

As a conclusion I'd like to stress that security and safety are important concerns for me, as I explain on the Sierra++ website. I recognize that these points are also crucial for other traders too. I'm unsure how other SC Custom Study providers handle and mention these points. My approach, my choice is to clearly outline what I do and what I don't. Perhaps the mere fact that I mention this on Sierra++ website raises questions ? I believe it's beneficial. Sierra++ takes a significant part of my time for almost one year, indicating my dedication. I'm serious on it. Ultimately, whether people trust me or not is beyond my control. Trust is built over time. I intent to be there as long as Sierra++ is useful for other traders.

I hope i've answered your questions.

Thanks.
"access to custom studies stored locally"
By this I mean study collections of delivered/custom studies, formulas, strategies, setups, configuration etc developed/created by each trader and stored locally under SC/data folder. It seems your tool would need access to the entire SC/data folder to access config properties file (which makes this solution vulnerable to exposure imo).

Answering your question : Sierra++ only uses the Sierra Chart API, from within its custom study that acts as a bridge. It does not read any file except its own config files, which are listed on Sierra++ website. One can check this with one of the existing tools for Windows able to trace how a program interacts with the system.

Considering your questions and thoughts (which once again I fully understand), I think it is important to make it clear that any developer creating a .exe or .dll file (including SC custom studies) has complete access to the system through the Windows API. This is an inherent aspect of the amazing speed of C/C++ : there is no safety mid-layer beyond Windows itself.

In essence, there are only two effective methods to restrict 3rd party code impact on a system :
1) utilizing scripting/interpreted code, like TradingView, with the obvious cost of performance,
2) running native code within what developers call a sandbox. Indeed, you can install VirtualBox on your system, set up Sierra Chart without exposing any sensitive files or studies, and then use Sierra++ to update your chartbooks. It works well, that's what I do for testing S++ on other OS like Win11 and Linux.

Following yesterday’s words about certification : while valuable, it does not guarantee perpetual safety. Even if a renowned authority validates the first 42 versions of an application, the 43rd may introduce unsafe or even malicious code.

Of course my intention is not to provoke or incite fear. It’s just the reality and this forum is a good place to tell the truth without the wahoo´s of marketing. I just want to say that from the first time you execute an external .exe or .dll on your system, you inherently place trust in the author.

Fortunately, to the best of my knowledge, it seems that SC Custom Study developers are generally digilent and reliable.

Summary :
- As high-performance native code, any SC custom study executed by Sierra Chart has complete access to the user’s system (files, network, Registry etc)
- Sierra++ is not more dangerous than any other SC custom study
- It's all about trusting the author
- I say what I do and everyone can check that I do what I say

Thanks for being transparent about this important aspect. To circumvent and minimize any potential risk, I always ask developers (whether freeware or paid) to provide source code for me to compile locally on my machine instead of just the dlls.

You have summarized it well. kudos for doing that.

Thank you.

This is a very good practice to check the source code and compile it by yourself.
