Hi,
I’m trying to set up my volume profile settings and save them as default. It’s not saving my profile settings when I press (set Defaults).
I was thinking I might have an issue with my Version of Sierra Charts (2458 64-bit), So updated my Version to (2517 64-bit).
It’s still not working; how do I resolve this issue?

Thanks,
Cody

We are not able to reproduce any issue with saving the defaults for a study, in particular for the Volume by Price study. We tried several different things to see if we could reproduce what you are stating, and we can not.

Are you trying to use these "defaults" with a "Drawn Volume by Price"? If so, then how the Drawn Volume by Price studies get the settings to use is different. Refer to the following:

I'm having issues with this after copying my installation to another folder (just copied whole folder except Data subfolder, where I copied chartbooks, etc.). The issue is in the newly copied instance, not in the original.

I enable the Draw VbP tool. I click on Tools --> Current Tool Config --> and confirm that the first one is selected. Additionally, I have a config set as a toolbar button, and it is selected as expected. I draw the profile, and it is not the correct config but is rather the default which is set when first installing SC. Selecting it and then choosing Tools --> Current Tool Config --> and selecting the first one correctly changes the config to match what it should have been when drawn.

Make sure the Control Bar button is set properly to have the specific configuration set that you want to use with the Volume Profile drawing tool.

Are you selecting this Control Bar button prior to drawing or are you selecting the "Volume Profile" option from the Tools Menu?

Are you selecting this Control Bar button prior to drawing or are you selecting the "Volume Profile" option from the Tools Menu?

To troubleshoot, maybe we can take the control bar out of the equation, as it's not specific to this issue.

To reproduce, I do the following:

Tools --> Draw Volume Profile
Tools --> Current Tool Config [confirm that the first config in the list, let's call "Gray VbP", is already selected]
*Draw the profile on the chart*

At this point, the unexpected result is that the profile is *not* "Gray VbP" but rather something like the default when installing SC.

Now, either right-click the profile and select "Configuration" (or, left-click the profile to select it, and go to Tools --> Current Tool Config) and choose "Gray VbP".

The profile config is now correctly "Gray VbP".

I have not tried to copy a SC instance by installing and selectively copying config files and the like. I did a bulk file copy (except for .scid data files). To be frank, this is not a super high priority issue for me, but I did want to let you know that something is obviously incorrect with this when copying SC installations. Note that I do *not* see the issue with a tool like the Extended Rectangle tool or regular drawing tools.

Keep in mind that the configuration you define under "Tools >> Tool Cohfigs" just sets up the configuration. The actual configuration that is used is defined by the selection for "Tools >> Current tool Config".

Make sure that the Current Tool Config is selected to be the correct configuration for the tool you are using. And keep in mind that this will be set to whatever is the last used configuration for that tool. So you want to make sure that the tool is selected first and then make sure that the correct Tool Configuration is selected.

Thanks John. As I described, the actual configuration is selected, but that is not the configuration that is applied. As a long time user of SC, I understand how it works, and it's a bug, but since it only affects the copied installation, I'm not going to worry about it for now as I will probably not use this extra installation for long anyway. I just wanted to put it on the record in case anyone else experiences something like this, they can refer here in the future.

If everything is setup properly, then this should not be occurring. Copying the files should not create this situation either, and we can not see any reason why it would.

Please get us your "Sierra4.config" file for us to see if we can reproduce this. This file is located in the main Sierra Chart installation folder. Refer to the following for how to attach a file:

Attached. This is the Sierra4.config from the instance which isn't working as expected (from the copy of the original).

We are not seeing an issue.

You state that this is in a copied installation. Is the file 'VP Gray Standard.StdyCollct' in the 'Data' folder of this installation?

No, it is not. And I'm guessing that this would be the cause of the error, right?

Yes, this is the issue. The system is trying to use the 'VP Gray Standard.StdyCollct' file to determine the setup for that Drawn Volume Profile. If the file is not present on that system (in the 'Data' folder) then it will just use the default settings for the volume profile.
