greetings, i have a client who is interested in deploying Sierra Chart on a hosted RDS environment for multi-user access. they are considering this as part of their DR and BCP strategy as it will permit them to login from a variety of devices in the event of equipment failure. i did see an old post recommending RDS for Linux users, but I was unable to determine if this was for a single-user or multi-user environment. in this instance, the RDS would be licensed for multiple concurrent users. is this a supported environment for Sierra Chart? is the product installed as Admin once and then shared by the users? or do they each need to run their own private install of Sierra Chart? how is the licensing handled in this scenario? also as a query in relation to licensing - if we have a user leave the group and another person steps in to replace them, how is the licensing handled? many thanks in advance, cheers, Wizdude. |

What exactly is this: hosted RDS environment What does RDS stand for?or do they each need to run their own private install of Sierra Chart? Yes.how is the licensing handled in this scenario?
Each user will have their own Sierra Chart account and log in with that.- if we have a user leave the group and another person steps in to replace them, how is the licensing handled? This user will need their own Sierra Chart account.Maybe we are not fully understanding what you are wanting to do. Who will be paying for the accounts for the Sierra Chart users? What does RDS stand for?
RDS = Remote Desktop Services. it's the replacement/rename of the original "Windows Terminal Services". so there is one Windows Server, and each user remotes into a personal desktop running on this server. they all share the same applications on this box. that's why i was asking about Sierra Chart. if it installs into C:\Program Files or similar then the one install is shared amongst all the users on the machine. but if i can installed it into C:\Users\user1\SierraChart or similar (because each user has their own profile directory just like on a normal windows install) then this would be fine. some applications don't play well with multi-user use on a Terminal Server/RDS due to the way their licensing works, thus the reason for this post in the first place. Who will be paying for the accounts for the Sierra Chart users? Each individual user or one user?
the server will be run by a private investment group. this one entity would be responsible for all license purchases. apologies as I'm not a Sierra Chart user myself - i'm the IT person trying to put together the infrastructure. is Sierra Chart licensed on the local machine? or does each user have a license which is held by a login or a portal at your end? cheers, wizdude. |

You need to have a Sierra Chart installation for each person. So you would need to install it to "C:\Users\user1\SierraChart or similar" for each person that will be using Sierra Chart on that system. Each person will have their own Sierra Chart account and hence will be logging into the Sierra Chart application with that Account Name and Password. Basically, each login to the server will need to be treated as their own Windows Computer for the purposes of Sierra Chart.
