When I change my Intraday Data Storage Time Unit to 1 minute from 1 Tick, it changes back immediately once I switch to a different fx pair. Even if I go back to the pair that I changed it on, it's still 1 tick. Any help here?

There is no connection between the type of chart and the Intraday Data Storage Time Unit, so we do not know how it could possibly be changing. This setting, in particular, is a global setting and has nothing to do with the chart itself, The one thing we want to make sure you are doing after you change your Intraday Data Storage Time Unit to 1 minute and you select OK to close that window and accept the change, then be sure you select File >> Disconnect followed by File >> Connect to Data Feed to ensure that the data feed gets updated with the new setting. Let us know what happens after you do this. For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

I followed the instructions step by step and unfortunately the setting is still being reverted back to 1 tick.

We just need to ensure that we are talking about the exact same setting, as we cannot think of a way that a chart can change that setting. The one we are referring to is on the File >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Common Settings >> Intraday Data Storage Time Unit. Please verify that you are changing this setting or if it is a different one, which one you are changing. Ah okay that might have fixed it. I was changing it from the global settings. Not sure if that makes a difference.

No, that is fine. It is the same thing under Global Settings. We really wanted to just make sure that you were not talking about the Tick Size, or something else. Ok, we will look into how that could get changed by a chart and see what we can find. In the meantime, can you get us your Chartbook that is showing this issue. Maybe we can get lucky and reproduce it. It switched back to 1 tick. I attached both chartbooks that I'm using. Thanks for the assistance! |

We totally forgot about the Numbers Bars study until we saw your chartbook. The issue is with Chart #7, where you have the Input for the Numbers Bars for Require 1 Tick Intraday Data Storage Time Unit set to Yes. This is why it keeps changing back to 1 tick. But, since you are using the Numbers Bars, are you sure you want to change the Intraday Storage Time Unit to 1 minute? Ah got it that makes sense, I'm going to have to make that decision soon. Will that seriously effect the data on the number bars? If I do decide to remove them, I switch the setting over to 1 minute and it'll be fine? |

Will that seriously effect the data on the number bars?
Not if you are using large time frames, like daily, which is what I think your charts were. But as you go down to lower timeframes, it will have an impact. If I do decide to remove them, I switch the setting over to 1 minute and it'll be fine?

Yes I'm only using the footprint on the daily chart, if it's not going to make a difference then I'd like to keep the number bars and change the setting to 1 minute. Could you guide me through it? |

If you are using the Numbers Bars study, you really should be using Intraday Data Storage Time Unit, no greater than 2 seconds and that delivers good performance. You can always try 5 or 10 seconds but we would not recommend 1 minute. Anytime you change that setting be sure to re-download the data in the chart: Re-download all the data in the chart by going to the chart and selecting "Edit >> Delete All Data and Download". You just need to do this once per symbol and not for each chart. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users.
