Cutting Parallel Rays

I have read the following and AFAIK it does not address the reason for my post:

Lines/Rays or Other Chart Drawings Move After Drawing Them

- the anchors on my drawings are never in the right fill space. they are anchored to the high/low of chart bars that have already closed = the trajectories of the lines should remain stable (but they don't)
- the terminal Y value of the individual rays is of no concern to me
- charts are not using a logarithmic scale
- this is not about mapping drawings onto a different bar scale

More times than not when a parallel ray is cut, the trajectories of the lines change significantly. This requires manual intervention to fix the slopes. This takes time for each channel and this incremental addition to the use of this drawing tool makes it very inefficient day after day.

Because channels are one of the most basic & fundamental tools for technical analysis please revise the cut algorithm so the lines do not need to be fixed after cutting.

Thank you for the consideration.

(there's also the issue of them flipping direction when cut instead of just getting shorter)

We will get to this as soon as we can. It is possible there can be a slight shift when cutting parallel rays. It depends upon the circumstances.

Sorry for the long delay in answering. We were trying to figure out the flipping issue.

First, with regards to the trajectories of the lines, the only reason we can find for this is because the option for Chart >> Chart Settings >> Adjust Tool Values to Tick Size is enabled. Refer to the information here:
Chart Drawing Tools: Chart Bar Values, Chart Tick Size and Adjusting Tool Values to Tick Size

Second, with regards to the Parallel Rays flipping when they are cut, we have figured out why that was occurring and have corrected the issue. This will be in the next Pre-Release (v 2139).

I was going to post about this same issue in current versions, however I found this topic. Is there any chance this will be fixed? I rely heavily on drawing tools and having them shift unpredictably when using 'cut drawing here' during the trading day is very distracting and slows down the trading process.

This is an old thread. Tell us specifically the issue you are having. It is not unusual that there can be some small movement, when cutting a Parallel Ray and that may be something we cannot correct.

@FTS3, I've noticed the following when using the parallel ray tool:

1) As mentioned in post #3, disabling "Adjust Tool Values To Tick Size" helps minimize/eliminate the offset that can occur when the cut algo interpolates the location of the new anchors.
- enabling "Auto Snap On Creation" and "Auto Snap On Adjust" helped work around no longer being able to easily access the tick levels when drawing

2) If the end of a line that's been cut is beyond the edge of the chart (not visible), the shift can be quite surprising. Said another way, make sure both lines are visible at the vertical cut edge.

3) The 180 degree 'flip' occurs if the cut is too close to the rightmost anchor. I use a keyboard shortcut (EDIT > UNDO CHART DRAWING: CTRL + ALT + Z) to reinstate the original drawing & then try again.
