Many commands in Trading Keyboard Shortcuts are not working

I am using SC Version 1242

I am programming Trading Keyboard Shortcuts for keyboard trading, I have "Trading Keyboard Shortcuts Enabled" checked on my Trade DOM.

I am able to use shortcuts for the following commands:

- buy/sell market
- buy the bid
- sell the ask
- flatten

The following commands shortcuts are not working, I used different combinations of ALT, CTL, SHFT, with numbers, letters, F-keys, numpad-keys, but all have failed to work:

- reverse
- cancel
- moving the stop *)
- moving the target *)
- order quantity buttons
- use attached orders
- buy/sell bid/ask +/- n tick

see attached image for an example of shortcut for "Buy Bid -1 Tick", which does not work. When I said they don't work, I mean when I pressed the shortcut keys programmed for these commands, with the DOM window receiving the active focus, nothing happened.

I understand that some commands would only work when there are trade positions on the DOM, for example, "move target up 1 tick" requires that there is at least one long or short position on the DOM and there is one target order on the DOM, I have tested these commands under such appropriate conditions, those listed above as not working are all not working.

Please help!

You need to go to the chart or Trade DOM and enable Trade >>Trading Keyboard Shortcuts Enabled. This option is specific to each individual Trade DOM and chart.

I did that, as stated in the second sentence on my original post above. That was not the cause.

After numerous hours of trial and error, I finally discovered some combinations that worked.

The problem is:

SC has reserved many combinations of keys for internal use, which cannot be used for custom shortcuts.

SC didn't provide a list of these combinations, they can be CTL+SHFT+letters, ALT+SHFT+numbers, ALT+F-keys, and many others, so that leaves us with a very time consuming task to test out numerous combinations that don't work and find those that work, this is very frustrating!

On top of that, there are combinations that are not used by SC, that also can not be used for custom shortcuts, and SC never provide a guideline what combination patterns should be avoid, we were forced to perform hours of trial and error until we rule out the combinations that don't work and discover those that work.

I wasted the entire day today, plus 3 hours overtime, just to finally figured out some of the combinations that worked.

I search the support forum, it had been requested by members for SC to provide a list of combinations of keys that had been used by SC defaults, but SC's response was to see the manual for such list, but I was not able find such list in the manual or and SC documentation.

It would be nice if SC can provide a list of default shortcuts that have been reserved and cannot be used for custom shortcuts (unless the user clears the default shortcuts, which is not a desired solution because we do want to use some of the default shortcuts). I don't think that is too much to ask for.

Yes, we do see this after looking at your post again. It was very long. And nevertheless, that was the only reasonable conclusion as to the problem and we wanted to make sure it was enabled for the specific Trade DOM.

In regards to your other comments, all of what you are describing is going to be operating system related and we would have no way to know this. This is the first time we are hearing of this.

Sierra Chart does not reserve any particular keys or shortcuts for other uses. They are all defined in Global Settings >> Customize Keyboard Shortcuts.

How are we to know this?. First we have heard of this. We do know that there can be problems when using the Alt key because some uses of that is reserved by the operating system but it does not necessarily mean there would be a problem using it within an application.

If the intent of this comment is to be critical of us, this is most definitely not fair to us at all. Not in any way.

You must be looking at a very old and not relevant post.

There are none. If there is a conflict you immediately see it in the "Key Currently Used By" box when you configure that keyboard shortcut.

It was much later, after I had spent almost 10 hours trying out countless combinations of keys to find out which ones work and which one don't, I finally found this list of SC Default Shortcuts that, can not be used as custom shortcuts.

Unfortunately, I attached a wrong image, I meant to attached the image that show the "CTL+ALT+SHFT+A (and all letters A-Z)" combination do not work, but ""CTL+ALT+SHFT+8 (and all number 0-9)" do work, but unless we test each combination out individually, there is no way of knowing which ones work and which ones don't work, I showed that as example, because I had to test many more other combinations to find enough working combinations for all the commands I need shortcuts for.

This is a partial list of shortcuts used by SC that can not be used as custom shortcuts:

That was not the intent, the intent was to help SC to become a better company by providing some better information for this subject, so that other users don't had to go through the same that I had gone through.

No company is perfect, by better helping customers, companies also get better in the process, and customers become happier customers, it's a win-win situation.

OK understood, but there is no additional information that can be provided and after this support request there still is no additional information that can be provided. Our only conclusion is you are running into some system specific issue relating to keyboard shortcuts.

Thank you for your help. My system is a very typical high end Intel I7 CPU with Windows 7 64 bit OS, so I I would think my "system Specific issues" must be common to other power users.

I do have one additional SC trading shortcut command issue: the Target Oder Tick-up command:

When I have 2 working targets, the "Target Order Tick Up" command only moves one target order but not both, it moves the second target specifically, is this by design? is it possible to move multiple targets up or down simultaneously? with that shortcut? or move the target that is closest to the current price and not the target that is farthest? (it would make much more sense to move the closest target first, because that is the one that would be hit first before the targets farther away get hit, so they can wait, as of now, the closes target cannot be moved by keyboard shortcuts, only the targets that are farther away get moved with the shortcuts)

Thank you again for you help!

All we can say in regards to the keyboard shortcut issue is we could not duplicate the problem. And the conversion of a keyboard shortcut to a command is handled at the operating system level.

We did a test and we modified a target order by keyboard and it was the one nearest the current price.

We gave this some thought and we realized with the problem is in your case. It has to do with using a TT FIX Adapter and that the raw prices have larger values. An adjustment has to made to the prices to make this work correctly. This will be out in the next release.
