there is a behaviour in the ZigZag study that makes it impossible to create anything useful from it. see attached. I notice the same behaviour in Swing Hi/Lo study. |

please, i have not heard back, this is a serious issue for me and appears to be a defect in how these studies create extra data between actual swings, and do not delete these irrelevant results until refreshed (by entering into Chart Studies and hitting 'Apply'). because of the extraneous data one cannot create strategies based on these studies. please advise

these studies are very important to me. i believe i have found fundamental flaws in how they repaint (or don't refresh properly, or something) that make them useless for trading. please lmk if i can provide more information. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS DEFECTIVE CODING.

@jivetrader, You probably need to provide more information in order for SC Support to see what is the problem. They are busy and will KIV such requests if there are more urgent issues to settle first. I can't be of help but I am concerned too if there is defective coding in the ZigZag study as I'm using it too. Just one suggestion about the re-painting issue, I remember long ago someone pointed about a repainting issue in ZigZag. The solution (accidentally discovered) was that the input for "Number of Bars Required for Reversal:" has to be zero value in order for the ZigZag not to repaint. Not sure if this is relevant but if it is, then good. Hope SC Support can respond to your case soon. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2014-11-11 01:47:57

@40winks thank you for trying to help, it is much appreciated Number of Bars Required for Reversal: is only relevant for ZZ mode 2 (i am using mode 1) were you able to understand from the screenshot that the issue is related to ZZ printing unconfirmed values? see cells AM7, AM9, AN7, AN9, AN10 ....many others. these values are INCORRECT and get magically auto-eliminated once the Chart Studies page is opened and closed (refreshed) [F6]. @SC Engineering this certainly looks like a defect in the study that needs attention. what more information do you need? I am happy to assist in solving this any way i can. |

Ok, now I get it. I could not understand from your screenshot, even though I checked it out a few times. I'm sure SC Support would have understood it much earlier.. but then again they might not and had assumed your request is beyond basic SC Support level. You may need to open a new ticket, as this thread is under "User Discussion" now. You may wish to attach a basic Chartbook with just the ZigZag study (along with your settings) in it. You can make it as a private file, if you want to keep it as confidential. That way, when SC Support review your request, they have something to work on to see if they can reproduce the problem. for those struggling with studies like these swing-based studies that need manual refreshing, you can either open the studies window and close it (to refresh your chart) or just press the INSERT key (Recalclate) and old, irrelevant, half-painted values will be removed. the reason i feel the issue is serious is that calculations (like spreadsheet calculations) cannot be based on these studies, since the studies show incorrect, temporary values until you manually refresh them. thus if i want to compare the most recent swing length to the prior swing length, it may be comparing temporary values that in actuality were not finished swings. thank you SC. |

For those of you who have this issue, we need to know what particular study you are using. The problem here has to do with optimizations with Spreadsheets and the nature of the Zig Zag study where it changes itself at bars earlier than the last bar. Hello, I use "Zig Zag" study. Is it your question ? To ganz : thank you for your link. I tried the "New ZZ b2" study, but there is the same issue than with standard "Zig Zag" study |

We have to think about how to solve this problem with Zig Zag. The Zig Zag study works fine and the Spreadsheet study does work properly and efficiently, but because a Zig Zag line can change at previous bars is the source of the problem.

thank you for the update and the concern SC. as the others, i too am seeing this behaviour with New spreadsheets. again, a workaround for now is to hit the Insert key for a recalc when desired. (not sure if this is the default key command but easy enough to set up). incidentally i find that one must also manually recalc any higher-timeframe Study/Price Overlays on a chart, ie they do not redraw their recent data automatically. this reminds me inferior products like MetaTrader. thanks and best regards |

Version 1218 which we are releasing now solves the problem with the Zig Zag study on Spreadsheets. We are certainly a much higher quality product than meta-trader. It is just that this was a kind of sophisticated issue that took time to understand and work out. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. This problem will also be solved with the Swing High/Low study and also Study/Price Overlay. Each of these require special coding.
