Hi, Is there a way for ASCIL to recognize when I get an "Message Rate Limit Reached" error, so that I can terminate the study? Thank you! /A |

Is there a way for ASCIL to recognize when I get an "Message Rate Limit Reached" error, so that I can terminate the study? AFAIK there is no error code or variable that reflects the "Message Rate Limit Reached" condition. I would suggest checking with your broker what the limits are set to and designing your trading system accordingly, i.e. keep track of how many order actions you are performing. If you are only occasionally hitting the rate limit it may also be worth asking your broker to increase the rate limit allowed for your account, though there's no guarantee that they will accommodate yor request. |

He's not talking about orders. Really... Message Rate Limit Reached is a specific message printed in the log when the order rate limit is exceeded. It 100% pertains to orders and is set by the broker/exchange to help maintain efficient functionality for all. But I guess I don't know what I'm talking about. He's talking about studies within Sierra. Generic AI generated answers from wrong questions don't help.
Bullshit answers from people with no clue don't help. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-02-17 15:05:16

@cmet In case you want to educate yourself: https://cmegroupclientsite.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/EPICSANDBOX/pages/457317540/Messaging+Controls https://www.cmegroup.com/globex/trade-on-cme-globex/messaging-efficiency-program.html For example, last I checked, EdgeClear allowed 35 messages per second, averaged over 10 seconds. Exceed that and you will get Message Rate Limit Reached and your orders will be rejected for a period of time. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-02-17 15:19:39

The question is not about messages from orders involving the exchange. It's about messages being sent to the message log in Sierrachart from a Study.
Wake up and learn to read. @cmet: Since you didn't ask the question, how can you be sure? The Message Log has a maximum size, where old messages are removed as new ones are added. I think the size is 10,000 lines, but it may have changed since I stopped using debug messages in the message log. AFAIK there is no error or message in the log that the max size has been reached. It just keeps the size limited. Have you ever seen the Message Rate error? |

Look, clearly you have never encountered the "Message Rate Limit Reached" otherwise you'd know what it related to and wouldn't be here spouting bullshit. Unlike you, I have actually built trading systems where the message rate was a serious consideration that had to be mitigated. For the avoidance of any doubt I'll repeat: The message Message Rate Limit Reached relates to a specific condition triggered by excessive order submissions, it is nothing to do with the message log. Here is some relevant information as it relates to simulated accounts: Trade Account and Risk Management: Setting Order Rate Limit Trade Account and Risk Management: Message Limit Per Ten Seconds (Access Control Settings) I am awake and can read perfectly well thank you. You have inferred from the original post that it relates to the message log, you are wrong and should educate yourself before commenting further. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-02-17 16:20:47

Thanks for the suggestions! I should have expressed myself more clearly - I am talking about the error related to the order rate limit. |

I've never professed to be an expert, just happened that I knew something about this where you did not. Is that such a crime? @ATEX If you want any advice feel free to DM.
