Replay problem

Hi Support,

I have a strange problem, I tried to use the replay feature today as I often do and it seems that the charts are replaying in timed steps of around 1 second. Around 2 weeks ago I changed my Intraday Data Storage Time Unit to 1 second, which I would have immediately thought was causing this issue, however I have used reply since that change and the chart replayed in a very similar fashion to the live trading day (albeit without tick accuracy I realise). So this appears to have happened just today, and possibly not linked to the 1 second Storage Time Unit change at all.

So I suppose my question is, should the charts reply in 1 second jerking intervals with the Storage Time Unit set to 1 second? And if so, how did the replay run in a similar fashion to the live day after I changed the Storage Time Unit from 1 tick to 1 second? I've a bit confused...

I have checked the .scid files in the data folder and the size confirms that all are 1 second downloads, not 1 tick as I though that maybe one contract file had remained on 1 tick perhaps.

Any help much appreciated,
Bill

If you did not redownload all the data after you made the change to the "Intraday Data Storage Time Unit", then the previous data would still be in the previous unit and new data will be stored in the new unit. So it sounds like you were originally seeing the older data at 1 tick units and now you are seeing the data in 1 second units. We can not explain what you are seeing when you look at the files - but it depends on what you are viewing - you would need to use "Edit >> Export Intraday Data to Text File".

In any case, what you are seeing now is correct. Your data is only stored at 1 second intervals, so the data is only there to update every 1 second.

Thanks John, superb support as always.

I did indeed delete all data and reload, must have got my dates wrong, sorry about that. I am now trying 0.5 seconds in an attempt to balance performance and accuracy.

Regarding the file sizes, I noticed that a full contract with 1 tick was around 2.8GB (on average) and a 1 second was around 140MB, and I had manually removed all of the clearly larger 1 tick .scid files.

On another note I'd just like to say how impressed I am with Sierra Chart, it is now taking my trading to another level, keep up the great work.

Thanks,
Bill

No I'm not sorry, I didn't realise that I cannot go lower that 1 second with the storage time unit... I'll have to figure whether the replay is acceptable with 1 second or I go back to 1 tick, thanks again.

Another quick question please, is it possible to use 1 second for historical contracts and 1 tick for the current contract? Thanks

is it possible to use 1 second for historical contracts and 1 tick for the current contract?

This can be done by using the "Intraday Data File Management". Refer to the following:
