Using the Study/Price Overlay study, I have overlaid a 5-minute Source chart study onto a 30-minute Destination chart. For the first 5 minutes of every 30-minute period on the Destination chart, the study shows real-time data, but then stops until the next 30-minute period begins. Is there anyway to have this 5-minute study continue to show real-time data for the entire 30-minute period on the Destination chart by either adjusting the Study Price Overlay settings or using a different overlay study? Thank you in advance for any feedback.

It depends on what you are wanting to do exactly. The Study/Price Overlay has an Input for "Data Copy Mode". This can be either "Use Earliest Value from Corresponding Timeframe" or "Use Latest Value from Corresponding Timeframe". When set to "Use Earliest Value from Corresponding Timeframe", you will get the earliest data for the corresponding time, meaning you would get the first 5 minute bar from the source chart. Conversely, if you use "Use Latest Value from Corresponding Timeframe", then you will get the last 5 minute bar that fits into that 30 minute timeframe, or the most recent bar for the current time. As such, using "Use Latest Value from Corresponding Timeframe" will continue to update on the current 30 minute bar as changes are occurring in the 5 minute source chart. -- Also, be sure to set the Input for "Bar Time Matching Method" to "Containing Match" or you will not get the exact match up of bars within the 30 minute period. Hi John--thank you very much for your prompt reply. I have the Use Latest Value from Corresponding Timeframe and Containing Match selected. At the end of the first 5-minutes of each 30-minute period on the Destination chart, the overlaid study stops updating until the start of the next 30-minute period. Is there anyway for the study to continue to update after the first 5 minutes so that I do not have to wait for it to update again at the start of the next 30-minute period?

From what you state of the setup, it should be continuing to update through the full 30 minutes. Please get us a chartbook with the two charts on it and just the necessary studies to show what you are seeing. Follow the instructions at the following link, but ignore the reference to 1 chart - we need to have the 2 charts in order to look at the overlay properly: Support Board Posting Information: Providing Chartbook with Only a Single Chart For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

We see the 5 minute EMAs updating as they should on the 30 minute chart. One way to help see this occurring is to change the "Draw Style" for the copied data to "Value of Subgraph" and then set the "Width/Size" to something that can easily read (start around 10). Then you can see the actual value updating, which may be too small to really see with just a dash. Hi John--thank you for testing it. Did you do your test for longer than the first 5 minutes of each 30-minute period, such as as between 17:35 and 17:50? I can see even tiny incremental moves within the first 5 minutes of each 30-minute period and then it completely stops moving after the first 5-minute period until the start of the next 30-minute period.

Actually the problem was that we removed the TPO in order to be able to better see what was going on. It's the TPO that causes the issue, as the TPO profile does not have the same concept of time as any other chart. Therefore, the Study/Price Overlay is not grabbing the correct value from the source chart. There really is not a good solution to this. The only thing we could recommend would be to use the "Text Display for Study from Chart" to be able to view the actual value from the 5 minute chart on the TPO chart, but it will not give you the visual line like you want. Another option is to set the Input on the Study/Price Overlay for "Match Source Bars to Destination Bars" to "No". This will give you the view of the EMA, but it may not line up with the times properly. But again, the last value will at least be correct. Hi John--thank you very much for all your efforts figuring this out for me. I appreciate it! One of your alternative suggestions will work just fine. Thanks again!
