Dear Sierra Engineering,

In Release 2577 you introduced "When charts are contained within the main Sierra Chart window and there is one chart that is maximized, all of the other charts in the background are no longer attempted to be draw".

Is there any way to make SC attempt to draw all of the other charts in the background (ie force old behavior)? My use case is I keep both main SC window and other charts open that I rotate through at regular intervals.

Thanks in advance!

What issue are you noticing regarding this? There should be none. Whenever you look at a chart, it is immediately drawn at that time. If a chart is not visible it is still always updating, just not the graphics. The graphics are of no value if you cannot see it.

Also the change probably is not of any value anyway because the operating system is not likely to even attempt to draw those charts in the background anyway. In other words the change we made effectively changes nothing.

I have a chart that loads in 45 sec due to high amount of historical data.

I have tested and you are correct. The only "effect" that I could find different is the when hovering mouse on top of the Windows Taskbar (which shows a preview of all of the windows) it doesn't show it's contents at all.

After closer testing this only happens if SC was closed and then started with that window minimized. This creates a perception that it is not loaded as I cannot tell at a glance if it's ok.

If I would refine my request further, I would say to "Trigger redraw of minimized windows *once* during startup/loading of a chartbook".

We are not understanding this. What window are you referring to?

The Windows operating system never will draw a minimized window. There is nothing to draw. There is nothing we can do to change that. You cannot expect a minimized window that has never been drawn, and cannot draw anything, to produce any content that the operating system can show. There is nothing new here at all.

We are 100% certain, that there are no changes that would ever affect you. As a matter fact the change we made probably had no if impact at all even on performance because a chart in the background would not even be drawn by the operating system anyway.

This is a very good example, why it is not good for us to even explain some of things that we do. Since they are simply misunderstood by users.

And really we do not update the What is New page much anyway. This only gives us further incentive, to not document to users, what we develop. And largely this is the case anyway.

There are no changes that will be made in response to this thread and there are no issues.

We have now once again confirmed this is the case:
The Windows operating system never will draw a minimized window

Sorry for any confusions - this one is on me.

I have tested more and you are correct. There seems to have been a misunderstanding on my side from reading the "What is New" page creating an impression that something changed whereas the behavior was always the same and controlled by whether the window is minimized or not.

Yes this is correct. We verified this again just now. Even if the main Sierra Chart window is minimized but a chart within the main window is not minimized, the charts or other windows contained within the main window will never be drawn. The operating system simply does not cause them to be drawn. This is not within our control.
