Feature Request

hello,

i am writing to request that you add the tradingeconomics.com website API to your service. i recognize sierra chart as a superior platform in trading and have been and always will be a customer. i am requesting this feature because i believe the ability to chart and track economic data is essential to happy trading. one of my biggest frustrations is having to go from one platform to another looking for things and this feature addition alone would be of incredible use in my day-to-day workflow. i'm sure many serious traders agree. i mean, imagine having a chartbook where you can collate and track any economic statistic in realtime directly in SC using your own custom templates... imagine just going Find Symbol>>Economic Data>>List of Countries+ then seeing GDP data, PMI, 10yr Interest rates etc and pulling up a historical chart where your own custom templates can be applied...very powerful and a worthwhile feature addition. please add this feature.

i'm not a programmer, but if the API exists it shouldn't be difficult to route their data into SC. not only that, i think this is something many, including myself would willing to pay for if you guys offer it officially. please consider this idea.

kindest regards,

How much do you pay now for access to the website data? The pricing for access to the API for 1 user is $199 per month and starting at $499 per month for multiple logins.

User584084,

i'm just a standard free user on that site. the thing is, Sierra Chart doesn't even need to have such an extensive service such as this. they would only need to provide maybe 20-30 data points for the core eight economies (240 total data points) and that would be sufficient for me and probably 90% of traders. all of that data is open and free to the public and all they would have to do is basically collate those 30 or so data points and provide them directly in SC. i mentioned tradingeconomics.com because it is a vast and expansive service with an already working API, but yeah, that price is unreasonable because we only really truly need data from the top eight for most futures, CFD or forex trading activity. additional countries can be added as demand arises for them.

it's just an idea -- writing this, i see how this doesn't necessarily fit into SC's business model as it doesn't really enhance their main service...it'd just be a pesky addition.

happy trading to you.

I had seen a display of economic events in one of youtube videos so a quick Google returned this link which pulls ForexFactory calendar in Sierra Chart. No idea how good this solution is.

And just to say it, unless you are intentionally trading news events, putting such a calendar on a chart is just a distraction imo. Your strategy/risk management plan should account of sudden volatility spikes or unannounced news.

Edit: I am not a big fan of 3rd party APIs unless Sierra Chart has officially approved the solution, especially the ones that require you to install their dlls without sharing source code.

User61168,

i'm not a news trader and this idea is centered around importing the raw data into SC so that i can keep track of the data directly. it's a big nevermind at this point, but thanks anyways.

happy trading!
