I have downloaded a stud collection file for use in Sierra that sits on my desktop.
As per normal -- so that this file is usable in my chartbooks -- I drop it into the Data Folder in Sierra in my C drive.
What was unusual is that when I looked in the data folder these files that are usually hollow or whited out were PDF file with the file extension .cht
which is the proper extension.
When I open a chartbook in Sierra and import the file all is good and I get a proper chart probably because despite showing as a pdf file the extension .cht is the
correct extension.

My concern is how did these files turn into PDF fileas and could this cause an issue down the road. Is there a way to change them back to what they are supposed to be
when whited out or hollow looking?

We have no idea what "Whited out or hollow looking" means, but the fact that the system thinks that a .cht can be opened by Adobe Acrobat Reader is all about the Operating System.

In doing a quick Internet search for how to remove a single file association, it turns out that there is not a good answer. So just do not worry about it. It will not make any difference that Windows thinks that a .cht can be opened with Adobe Acrobat.

Agree. This is a standard Windows OS behavior. Google "how to remove file associations in windows 11"
returns this video below which shows how to remove/modify default file associations....

Even I have no clue what the heck is "Whited out or hollow looking" :-)

What is annoying is that Windows does not let you set the default to "none" for a single file type, except by editing the registry. You can only change to another app/program.

You can reset all of the file types to the Windows Default, which will solve the single mistake, but then other associations that were created that you want, would be reset.
