Teton and Cross Connect

Hi,

I am using Teton and I had a call with the tech people at my clearing firm (Advantage) about hosting a server at one of their sites (Aurora and 350 E Cermak). We decided it's not worth the extra expense since the connection to Sierra is over the regular internet. They suggested I ask if you guys would consider a cross connect.

I've asked before about reducing the remote buffer delay and you guys suggested connecting directly to the CME with a special version of Sierra. If you are able to do a cross connect, would you be able to reduce the remote buffer delay on your end? Obviously I understand this will not be a free service. Maybe it could be a new higher tier service for more advanced users of Teton?

Are you referring to reducing the delay for market data or order routing?

I am referring to market data. I assume order routing has no buffer?

Yes order routing, it is not going to have any delay. Market data will have some amount of buffering and delay. It is too involved for us to offer a custom solution to eliminate that. Handling large amounts of market data is very difficult.

But then again what kind of the Delay would be acceptable? Are you looking for like less than a millisecond or less in 5 ms?

This is what I was thinking. Working with NirvanaTS (I am assuming Sierra is still working with them), they provide the IT aspects; dedicated servers for Sierra customers, cross connects. Sierra runs another server with the special version of Sierra connected to CME. This server then sends data to the Sierra customer servers through cross connect at an improved remote buffer delay. I am not a network engineer but something along these lines might work?

I know sub millisecond is HFT territory and is not what I am aiming for, plus there is the issue of how low the Chart Interval Update can be. If we can improve from the current 20ms to sub 5ms, I'd pretty happy with that.

Hi, any update? Maybe I didn't understand correctly your reply, did you mean less than 5ms can be done without cross-connect?

I understand you may not want to commit time to something and have me only use it for a month. If that is a concern, I am willing to do a one year contract. Just let me know what you need to make it worth your while. Also, I will run more than one machine (I pay for 3 accounts) and will need more going forward. Please factor that into your calculation.

If cross connect is required, I thought it would be easier and more cost effective if we both used Nirvanats. I am open to all your suggestions.
