Quick question regarding SC and Denali feed with IB as a broker. I've been using the two services without issue for quite some time now but would like to know if I can open SC and have the charts update real time without actually connecting to my IB instance. I ask because in the evenings or weekends I'd like to conduct analysis without having to also open IB's application since I wouldnt be placing trades, jsut analysis. I understand theres the option of converting the symbols. Is this the only/necessary way to open and connect solely to SC with Denali's feed if I have IB set as the currently selected service? Any way to get updated charts when not actually connected to IB since I only use Denali for data as it is? Thanks |

The only way to get the data when not connected to Interactive Brokers is to change the Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Main Settings >> Current Selected Service to SC Data - All Services. When you make this change, you will need to ensure that you update your symbols for the current service. As the symbols are going to be different between the two services. Another option, would be to install a second Sierra Chart that is just always connected to SC Data - All Services, so you do not have to change the settings and the symbols. Refer to the following for how to install a second Sierra Chart: Using Multiple Data and Trading Services at the Same Time: Step-By-Step Instructions to Install Multiple Copies of Sierra Chart For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Thanks for replying. So just to confirm, there is no option to just open Sierra Chart and have real time data when not connected to IB other than by switching to SC Data and translating the symbols every time? Even though I only use Denali for data?

@User513959 Are you trading Futures only, or stocks and forex as well? |

If that's the case it would be so much easier to open an account with a futures broker like EdgeClear(Teton) or Discount Trading(Rithmic), everything you need is within SC. Plus, IB's margin requirement is ridiculously higher. You will always need Denali for historical data whether you use IB or any other brokers. Brokers are providing live streaming data with non or very limited historical data. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2023-03-07 02:43:36

Even though I only use Denali for data? Yes this is correct. To access historical and streaming market data independent from your Trading service. Follow these instructions. Set "Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings >> Current Selected Service" to "SC Data-All Services". Press "OK" And then translate the symbols in your Chartbooks and Sierra Chart using this "Edit' menu command: Edit Menu: Edit >> Translate Symbols To Current Service (Translate Symbols to Current Service) You can then use the data provided by Sierra Chart independent of your trading service. @User513959 What I do is to open a second installation of SC with Denali Data only (SC Data-All Services). That way I have the first installation connected with IB and if I want to do Analysis only, I open the second installation. |

Thats a great idea with the second instance. Any way to have any drawings show up on both?

Drawings can not be shared between instances. But if you copy a Chartbook, then the drawings will be in the Chartbook.

@SC Engineering , Are there any downsides/cons/risks to moving trade execution to a sub instance that is instance #6 or #7? Does Global PnL Management still function with this setup? Date Time Of Last Edit: 2023-03-08 03:33:24

You can do this, but you need to set the Global P/L Management needs to be done in the Main Instance. Refer to the following section for information on how to setup your system for best trading performance.
