Hi, So on a brand new laptop in "recommended" power setting my SC runs perfectly using around 0.2% of cpu and around 35mb of ram while plugged in. If unplugged SC freezes and by freeze I mean SC is fully operational but no data is coming in. This same pattern occurs regardless of what power mode I am in. It starts working again once plugged back in. Also if unplugged when I boot SC the same thing happens, SC is fully functional but it wont connect. Plug it in and it works. Now this behaviour also happened on a different laptop I was using for the last month but it worked fine plugged in or not on another different laptop that I used the whole of last year. Is this something to do with one of the latest updates that has happened over the last month or so? Obviously when unplugged these laptops run every other software perfectly. It is only SC that this happens to. I change chart update interval to 250 from the 10 I have it set to but that made no difference. I also changed the intra day data storage time unit to 1 second from the 1 tick I usually have it set to, also that made no difference. Any ideas? Thanks |

We really do not know. Offhand, it sounds like something to do with Power Settings in Windows, but the Advanced Settings do not do anything that would not also affect other programs (like turning off your wireless network).

These are completely different computers. Current one is brand new 12th gen i7 win 11 pro, previous was duel core pentium silver win 10 and the one it worked fine on was duel core amd something or the other on win 10 (duel cores have no fan, I dont like fan noise). All with fresh OS installs the day I buy them and only SC installed. I'll also add this only happens when market is busy, NY session. When its dead Asian/London session it appears to be fine although it could be lagging I'm not sure. Data just completely stops and the DD will update like every 7 seconds or so. It only happens to SC. I've only noticed it the last month on the latest two laptops Date Time Of Last Edit: 2023-03-07 08:05:36

If anyone is looking, I dloaded SC again and set it up manually. I didnt copy any files over. It works perfectly. As usual on this board SC works fine and was user error of some kind =] |

Ok. We are glad you got it resolved, although we wish we really knew what the problem was.

Well I cant really help you there but one observation. I use only one chart with no indicators, I have 2 buttons 4k tick and 2k. If I ever flicked down to 2k and back it would normally take about 2 seconds to load the 20 days of data. Since this fresh install there is no loading now, it's instantly loaded which is awesome! Thanks for your time =] |

That is most likely due to the size of the data files. As time goes on you will continue to store the data that you have had in the past, even if you are not viewing it. There are a few things you can do about this: - Compress older data into a higher timeframe (rather than 1 tick data, you could store it as 1 minute data). Refer to the following: Intraday Data File Management - If you are dealing with Futures Data and you do not need the older contracts, you can delete those files. Also, do not use the Continuous Futures Contract option unless you need to. Yeah I delete all the old data at contract rollover and when I have reinstalled on each new laptop I have deleted the data entirely and let it dload the current contract again on the new machine. I assume what you're saying doesn't apply to the current contract data? I dont use continuous, just the current ES contract. This fresh install has the same data as the previous not working install, just the current ES. On another note, when I have the crosshair up, it shows the price and time at the ends of the lines but when I move around the price and time boxes flash as I move it. Like every time it moves to a new bar it blacks out, same with every tick on the other axis. So as it goes to the next bar it blacks out before reappearing, like a nano second or something but its really annoying. I can literally move the cursor in a circle fast and the crosshairs completely disappear leaving just the cursor visable because theres more blackout time than print. How can this be fixed? Cheers |

Do you have the option for Global Settings >> Graphics Settings >> Other >> Use OpenGL for Chart Graphics enabled? If so, what kind of Graphics Card do you have in the computer? Try toggling this option (depending on your current setting) and see if that helps. Refer to the following: Graphics Settings: Use OpenGL for Chart Graphics (Global Settings >> Graphics Settings >> Other) Also, there was an issue about a month ago with the OpenGL implementation that we resolved, but if you happen to be on one of those releases, then that could be the issue. Make sure you update to the most recent release in order to make sure this is not the issue. I'm on the the latest version of SC. Actually I've tried to figure this out myself today and if I enable OpenGL it works fine but SC uses 300mb of memory instead of the 35mb it normally uses when not using OpenGL and it seems to uses slightly more cpu too. Still less than 1%. It's not a problem if that is the only solution I guess, I'll use OpenGL if I have to. With no OpenGL cpu maxes out at 6% and gfx at 30% if I scroll as fast as possible for ages, with OpenGL cpu maxes out at 2% and gfx 60% doing the same but doing what you normally do in SC cpu 1% and gfx 1% with or without OpenLG Gfx card is Intel Iris XE Date Time Of Last Edit: 2023-03-08 01:01:20

The crosshair wasnt doing this on the install I was using yesterday and I have a feeling of deja vu that it did this ages ago but i found some setting that fixed it (not opengl)

Nvidia is the only company that has a good OpenGL implementation. There are known issues with Intel and AMD. Given that you have an Intel graphics card, we would not recommend using the OpenGL option. And it sounds like you are not.

Dude problem again. So everything worked fine yesterday, plugged in or unplugged. Now as we got closer to market open, about 10 mins before it disconnected. Plugged it in and it reconnected. Shut SC down, unplugged and logged in again, account screen took longer than normal, SC opens fine but wont connect. Plug it in and it connects. What could possible be going on here? Laptop works perfectly with all other software. Only SC is doing this. I am using OpenGL now so I can see the crosshair properly and it works fine |

I do a net speed test and unplug it while its dloading and there is no change in dload speed. So this is related only to SC

I realise nothing I had installed got any data when unplugged so I did a full network configuration reset. Now it all seems to be working! Wow that was fun =] |
