Hi, I customized my Global Graphics Settings. Now I want to copy those settings over to one specific chart in my chartbook and then adjust some of those settings only for this specific chart (because I don't want these changes to apply globally to all other charts as well). Could anyone please let me know how to do this? I already saw that I can save my Global Graphics Settings under a custom name. But how can I load this custom configuration into a specific chart and overwrite its default graphics settings? |

There is not a way to do what you are wanting. As soon as you set the chart to use the Chart Graphics Settings, all the Global Graphics Settings will be changed to what is set for the chart settings.

Thanks for the quick reply. But that is very unfortunate. Because I really changed a lot in the Global Graphics Settings, and beeing forced to manually replicate every single change from the Global Settings to the graphics settings of this individual chart will be a lot of effort. Is there maybe any way to do this outside of Sierra Chart by manually editing some of the config files and simply copying over the corresponding settings? Date Time Of Last Edit: 2023-02-16 16:06:07

There is not a way to do this through the files, as they are stored in binary files and in completely separate ways between the Global settings and the Chart settings.

Ok, I see. Thanks for the clarification. But may I ask you for your advice on how to properly use the graphics settings then, i.e. how they are intended to be used from your point of view? Because maybe I am simply doing it wrong. I always thought the idea was as follows: Configure the general/common settings that should apply to ALL charts in the Global Graphics Settings. Afterwards, fine-tune these settings in the individual charts. That's how it would make sense to me from a UX perspective. However, if I am not able to transfer the Global Graphics Settings to a specific chart in order to fine-tune them there (only for this specific chart), this approach does obviously not work. I thought about this for some time now, but I simply cannot figure out a good approach that would allow me to (i) easily define common graphics settings that I generally want to use in all of my charts, but also (ii) easily let me make some adjustments / fine-tuning to these graphics settings in only some of my charts. Could you please give me some advice on how you would approach this and how the Graphics Settings are meant to be used? |

The idea of how they are to be used is that the Global Graphics are the settings you want for all charts. Any chart you want to be different needs to us the Chart Graphics settings, which means having a different starting point from the Global Graphics. If you are going to want to modify something in your charts on a reasonable basis (you would need to figure out how often this would be) then we would recommend setting up a single chart as a template that uses the Chart Graphics Settings. Then duplicate that chart to any new chart you want and then modify from there.
