A friend sent me a screen grab of his hourly chart from which included the CPI release and I noticed that his chart was actually slightly different than my hourly chart.

I've set up my Chart Session times according to the relevant SC section so i don't understand how or why this is possible. He verified his chart against Trading View and confirmed his was the same. He is on Ninja.

Any thoughts on this? Attached are two screen grabs one mine and one his.

Thank you.

Actually now looking at my hourly chart it seems that at certain points during the day my hourly candles turn into 30 minute candles and then at another point it recoups that with a 90 minute candle.

For example on 1/9/23 the time axis on my hourly chart goes from 8pm to 9pm to 9:30pm to 10:30 and stays on the half hour until after 16:30 it jumps to 18:00.

What is this?

The reason for the timing on the candles is due to your Session Times. You must have your Regular Trading Hours starting at 09:30, which will give you 1 hour candles starting on the half-hour (since that is when the Start Time starts) until your Evening Session, which must start on the hour. In which case (assuming trading occurs 24 hours) you will get a 30 minute candle for the transition from Regular Trading Hours to the Evening Session. Refer to the following:
Chart Session Times: Bar Starting Times

As to the differences in the charts, assuming that it is not a difference in the Session Times, or how the systems deal with the data display based on the Start Times, then refer to the following:

OK i've got it sorted.

My hourly chart was set to use evening session and since the RTH session starts at 09:30 it was staggering my RTH session to start on the half hour.

To eliminate this issue I set the Session Start time to 17:00:00 to end 16:59:59.

Now the charts are as normal.

If support has any context or clarifications to add they are always appreciated.

Thank you.
